No boom today....

Well, the world hasn't come to an end, so I guess I'm on track with my previous plans to spend the weekend baking. I'm still trying to figure out who's getting what and when...brownies for J and Mb. They'll probably both be getting theirs on Monday. I may take the C's a bundt cake---their "do" is Monday evening---I stocked up on flour and whatnot, so I can in theory do actual non-mix baking. We're having a cool-down, so slaving over a hot oven sounds cozy rather than horrific.

I need to take something to church for hospitality on Sunday. I'm thinking corn casserole; it's gone over well the other times I've taken it, and I have all the ingredients. (Eggs, corn, crackers and sour cream, although milk will do in a pinch.) It's quick to make, too---if I get up earlyish Sunday morning, I can throw it in the oven and take it in still warm....

Today was absolutely glorious, sunny and cool (mid 60s). I dragged my hoard of cans in to recycle---that netted me $8.50 at .50 a pound---so I'm set for movie money. (I'm going to concoct a big batch of Chex mix to munch on during the show. And I always bring my own beverage.) Then I went over to Publix...sat in their cafe updating apps for an hour, then stocked up on baking supplies and a few other items, detoured into Aldi, got a few more things there, and came home feeling well pleased with myself.

The trunk of my car is the emptiest it's been in months! That means I'll be able to load it up with some of my too-big wardrobe, destined for my friend at church. I'm excited about that: It's Stuff Going Out AND I know it's going where it's needed.

GK promises a box will be coming my way (she hasn't mailed it yet, oops!), more bulky than heavy, according to her, so more clothes, I suppose. All the more reason to find new homes for the old stuff!

Aldi had some fab finds! I purchased the ham and all of the trimmings plus some extras and only spent $50. I was thrilled!

Sounds good! I'm not doing any serious cooking for Christmas, just a pot of collards, and am working my way through a nommy meatloaf I made the other night. And I have some brownies I got in the gift exchange at church. Low-key and low stress.

YAY! for cooler weather! We got our first snowfall on the 21st, though only about 2 inches. I don't mind the cold/snow but I *hate* driving in the shit.

Yeah, I remember a couple of white Christmases...back when I was a kid and didn't have to worry about getting from Point A to Point B. Those were the days, eh?

EXACTLY. Snow is nothing new to me, but every year I still think it's beautiful coming down. Shoveling, scraping and driving? NOT SO MUCH. If I could just sit in my jammies with a mug of coffee or hot chocolate and watch it fall, it would be awesome!

Chex mix is an excellent idea for movie munchies. When I was a kid, my brother and I used to make popcorn at home and put brown paper lunch bags of it in the pockets of our raincoats. (In north Georgia, it rains constantly in the winter, so nobody bats an eye if kids are walking around in yellow slickers.) DH used to frown on smuggling snacks into the movies, but the $4.50 charge for a medium Coke at the theatre here has convinced him otherwise. :D

Publix had a BOGO on Chex cereal the other week, so I got a box each of corn and rice. I'm not a big fan of all the other stuff in the regular formula, though I also grabbed a can of cashew pieces in lieu of peanuts.

I've always brought my own nibbles to movies; I refuse to pay their extortionate prices! Like you said, what they want for ONE watered-down soft drink would buy me a whole carton. Ditto popcorn. The nice thing about toting a mammoth purse is capacity. I've been known to smuggle in a 2-liter diet Coke and a whole sub....
