R.I.P.
Ricardo Montalban
1920 -- 2009

Okay, I could've easily found a picture from Fantasy Island. That's classic Montalban, probably the first role most people think of when they hear his name. Or, I could've scored Trekkie points with a shot of bare-chested Khan from the best Star Trek movie ever filmed. (Believe me, I thought about it.) But hey, this is me---I went with the car. Yes, indeed. Because I melted when I heard Mr. Montalban's voice caress the part about "rich Corinthian leather"....

Oh, those commercials made you want to go out and buy a big old land boat you couldn't really afford. Or at least find a guy with a sexy accent!

His obituary said he was married to his wife for sixty years. That's truly awe-inspiring.

60 years...wow, that really is something. (I think it's kind of sad that these days that's considered unusual.)

*facepalm* I'm so sorry, Bev! It got here the other day. I love them both. I'm practically married to the cloisonee, I'm wearing it now.

I know what you mean. I caught part of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea a few weeks ago, and it made me melancholy thinking of how good Kirk Douglas looked back in the day and wondering how much longer he'll be with us. *sigh*

Yay! Glad they got to you, and that you like them. :D

I know what you mean about Kirk Douglas...one of the last of the old timers. I dare say Elizabeth Taylor will be in the news soon too. *sigh*

There are an alarming number of senior-seniors enshrined in my heart. Anne McCaffrey's 80-something as well, and I don't think she's doing much actual writing any more. And I'm not exactly poised to take her place. *sigh*

Oh, I didn't see this until just now: Patrick McGoohan, who was 80, also passed away today. I remember watching "The Prisoner" when I was a little girl and it making me horribly uneasy.

He did four or five different episodes of Columbo as a variety of different killers and he was awesome in all of them.

I hadn't heard that. I don't think I ever saw "The Prisoner"...

You've GOT to check out The Prisoner. It's only one season long, but it's beyond awesome. And McGoohan was so debonair. *swoons*

RIP. 1920? I had no idea.

You're so right about the best ST movie ever filmed. Though those ear creatures still haunt me...

Though ST 3 had my favorite line: "Well, Doctor, that's what happens when you miss staff meetings." or something like that.

Although I've been heard to say (with tongue in cheek) that my favorite Star Trek movie is Galaxy Quest....

Old? Oh, sweetie, I just found out that Katie Cassidy---last season's Ruby---is David Cassidy's daughter. And clearly, she is all grown up.

Let's toast our lost youth with a few Geritol shots....
