Some of those hats were just dreadful. It's a shame women don't wear hats more often; it seems they either don't know what suits them, or they want to make the most of the opportunity for shock value. Neither is appropriate for and event like this. I have nothing against whimsy, but not at the expense of good taste and dignity.
