So tired---!

For me, this is early. Usually, I'm not even out of work yet. There's still the commute, the wind-down.

Not tonight. I've been up since 8AM, did a lot of strenuous stuff. A very productive day. If only my laundry would finish!

Note to self: Need bathroom tissue and laundry detergent.

And sleep.

Wait. Wait. You actually call it "bathroom tissue"? Like, for real? In everyday conversation?

You were being ironic, no?

[identity profile] vanillafluffy.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ironic? Maybe. The label over that aisle at the store says "bathroom tissue". Calling it "loo roll" is a bit too obscure for most of the Yanks on my f'list, and "toilet paper" sounds so...unclassy. Conversationally, though, yeah, I'd probably say toilet paper.

"Bathroom tissue" always makes me laugh, because it's an advertising thing, as if there's some law against say 'toilet paper' on TV. Always puts me in mind of that ep of Happy Days when Marion, on the phone to Richie, asks him to pick up some 'TP' on the way home; he doesn't understand, and she's forced to spell it out, and he reassures her it's OK to say 'toilet paper' on the phone.

The stores up here call it toilet paper, iirc.

If you want really unclassy, how about 'bog roll'? That's another UK usage.

same here. I've never heard anybody call it bathroom tissue, just like no one actually calls chocolate chip cookies "toll house" or calls their sister "sis".

Anyway, whatever you call it, I still need to buy some.

here's another one. has anybody ever used the word "galore" outside of an advertising context?

and he probably drove a Volvo!
ba doom boom.
