Massive suckitude

It's 45F/7.2C in my office at just past midnight. I'm wearing layers upon layers, including my coat and I'm doing my best to type in gloves.

Was going to go wander around WalMart to warm up, but my car won't start. Tomorrow, I'll fish out the battery charger and see if I can get it going. Got a new battery when I got the car, and that's about five years ago, so...not too surprised. Charger is buried in the trunk, won't that be fun?

As much as I bitch I'm USED TO being miserably hot. Miserably cold is just miseerable.

Oh, hon. You definitely have my sympathies. Corgiguy and I once lived in a little house that was essentially a wooden tent and the only way I could keep warm during temps in the teens was to turn the oven to 500 F., open the door and put my feet on it. We could practically hear the CHA-CHING! as the electric meter spun.

This place is cinderblock, which you'd think would be cozy, but no---it holds heat in the summer and cold in the winter. *eyeroll*

The charger is hooked up to my battery, and I'm praying---feel free to hum along---that I don't need a new one.

Humming like crazy! *crosses fingers for battery health*

It's snowing here again, and freezing rain is predicted for tonight. I've been lashing the horses all day to get ahead in case I can't make it to work tomorrow.

Snow and ick? Argh. I hope your weather improves, too!

Supposedly it will once this front passes through, but tonight we're under a winter weather advisory for an ice storm, which is what everyone around here fears because of hazardous roads and power outages.

Oh YUCK! I know I get seriously cranky when our temps exceed my comfort zone in either direction. I can't imagine what it's like to be freezing in Florida.

[identity profile] vanillafluffy.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
There IS a certain amount of "Wait a minute, this is Florida, it's not supposed to get cold here!" With heat, you kind of expect it. You get used to the heat index (the summer equivalent of wind chill), where the temp is 94 but it feels like 104 because of the humidity. It's not fun, but at least you can take cold showers. At the moment, I've been in the same clothes since Sunday, and I'm not taking them off until I can immerse myself. Good thing I'm not sweating, huh?

At least with Florida heat, there are no surprises- we know what to expect. This cold and bitter wind just shakes me to the bone...my skin doesn't appreciate it, either!

[identity profile] vanillafluffy.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
My feet hate me. They're constantly cold, even in shoes or slippers, and the skin is dry and tight. If my feet were warm, I'd be happy!

Let me try that again:

The reason why it's so cold: The Greenland Block.

I don't know where they're getting "warmer and wetter" from---our drought index is so bad that half the state is in the red for fire conditions. Don't anybody light a match!

Although "sneaux" was amusing, I've got to admit. As long as we don't see it here!

There was one day this week that Georgia had every weather alert condition I'd ever seen covered by different areas of the state: fire, high wind, winter weather, flooding, you name it.

Although I'd never become a Christian Scientist (me likes modern medicine just fine, thank you), they do a bang-up job of reporting. That was the first time I'd seen an explanation of why we were all suddenly living in the Deep Freeze instead of the Deep South.

Days like that call for a special icon! *points* Feel free to snag.

So are you hunkered down at home, or have your braved the elements to serve St P's?

I came in late this morning, after the temperature rose and the rain melted the ice. It was seriously nasty yesterday -- Atlanta had over 1,000 weather-related accidents at rush hour.

*winces* Ouch! Gonna be a bunch of weary insurance adjussters!
