December so far

Sunday afternoon, GK took me out to lunch at the Frontier restaurant. a local landmark I've been hearing about for years, but hadn't been to. The decor is wall-to-wall western-themed paintings and a few 'shootin' irons' bolted to the walls. Got a burger (ate half and saved half for later) and one of their famous home-baked cinnamon buns. Which OMG, I'm sorry my poor pancreas! was amazing.
Then I went solo to see 'The Nutcracker'. Usually I adore it, but this time, I endured it. The party scene at the beginning seemed interminable, they had pyrotechnics for the scene between the mice and the toy soldiers that made me jump a foot--it was all very accomplished, but I just wasn't feeling it. My favorite thing about the afternoon was seeing the little girls in the audience for whom this was obviously a special treat--they were all dressed up in shiny, sparkly dresses...it reminded me of my first time, the Christmas I was seven, when my sainted brother Peter took me on a bus to the ferry, the ferry to Manhattan and the subway, to Lincoln Center. IIRC, I was wearing a dress with an emerald green velvet skirt and a white dotted Swiss bodice.
Peter was a very artsy type...according to my math, he'd've been 22 at the time, and after high school, he apprenticed to a professional window display artist. Yes, that was a legit profession at one time! This was before everything was strip malls--stores had platforms inside the front windows to show off the latest styles and changed them seasonally to reflect the newest merchandise. Being a great brother, albeit 15 years older than I, he often brought home pretty things for me--a nice change from the basics Mom got me from the Sears catalog. I'm fairly sure that frock was one of his contributions.
Monday I went to Smiths, because yay, first of the month and all...on the 13th, ASFS is having their annual Christmas party. They do themes every year as far as food goes. This year, it's 'Emergency Space Rations'. GK is doing something with bento boxes, whereas I'm going to whomp up a mega-batch of rice krispy treats, spritz them with food coloring and call it, 'Soylent Green'. I'll probably take some tea, too, because most of those shindigs have nothing but sugared sodas.
Today/Tuesday, I visited Walmart, ecause there are some things Smiths is less than satisfactory about, like varieties of powdered drink mixes. And I got some collard greens, because I've been craving them.
On the agenda for Wednesday, GK and I are having lunch at Red Robin, then zipping across the street to see 'Knives Out'. It looks a treat! Hopefully on the way home, I'm going to see some 2x4s cut...(I know, that sounds like quite a non sequitur!) GK has some spare scraps of lumber she's going to give me, and Home Depot, for all their other failings, does free cuts.
The buffet on my kitchen (on permanent loan from GK) needs to move a few inches to the north, but needs to be elevated slightly, since the trailer has floor vents to circulate warm air. Hence, the bits of 2x4. This is a thing because I missed out on an absolutely stunning china cabinet in part because it was the end of the month and in part because of the logistics of shoe-horning it in there. (It was mid-century moderns and gorgeous, and somebody beat me to it, which I'm sick about. Between that and Lambie's defection, this has not been a cheery week.) So I figure, get it done, that way when I find another candidate, I'll be ready.
I have indulged in some retail therapy...GK has managed my finances so that I have a smidge of extra cash this month, and I had a nice binge of shopping on Amazon for Cyber Monday. Mostly practical things: a 2020 planner, a set of lightning cords, a new sleep mask (my old one went MIA and I'm lost without it), a fancy card for GK's upcoming birthday and a couple things for crafting.
The week before last, LL took me to a Swedish Weaving class at the nearest senior center. I enjoyed it; but Walmart has a rubbish selection of cotton crochet thread...so I invested in ten balls of the stuff in assorted colors from Amazon. It's easier than trying to get to Joann or Michael's. Maybe it'll last me til the enthusiasm has run its course.
Leading me to some news that's good and scary at the same time. GK knows a guy who's willing to come over and sort and clean with me. He's to be paid $10 an hour, and she's paying half. (She says it's worth it not to have to do it herself.) He's coming over on Thursday for a couple hours to see how it goes--I figure if nothing else, I can get the damn buffet moved if I can snag those 2x4s. I say it's scary because I don't know him from Adam's housecat and I'm not used to having people in my space other that GK, intermittently. And going through my stuff, well, that's personal. I mean, it's emotional enough without adding social anxiety into the mix. So we'll see.
Anyway, that's what's been going on. Love to all.
