This morning, I met up with GK at her mom's house, where she used the sewing machine there to good purpose. My cloak is taking shape nicely. GK was *quite* surprised; she says she's never, ever, NOT had to put a pleat in the back of a cloak for shaping, but owing to the fact that I have exceptionally broad shoulders, I don't need to be pleated.
GK works here http://www.cloakmaker.com/ in her spare time, and during her last visit, offered to fulfill my long-standing wish for a cloak of my own. (Dating back to my days of drooling over David Prowse back in high school---really!) We got the material during her last visit, a nice, heavy golden-brown cotton--I thought twill, but it's proven to be something a bit less wrinkle-resistant. Drat.
Still, it's a good color for me, sort of a palomino effect with my blond hair, and when I tried it on, my toes curled. It sweeps divinely. Just a little movement on my part produces swirling ripples of tawny goodness. Being tall may be a drawback when it comes to finding pants that fit right, but damn! can I carry off a cloak! We're not going to get it done before she leaves, because she wants to serge the hem on the industrial serger where she works, but I'll try to get pics.
This is the clasp it's going to have:
