Other people's connections, Day Five
Sep. 12th, 2006 01:30 pmI know it's only been since last Thursday, but it feels like a month...I hadn't realized how much I rely on my internet connection for things. What's the weather forecast? Check on Yahoo. Who else was in that movie with whatisname? Look on IMDb. When did the Sydney Opera House open? See the entry at Wikipedia. Without a connection, I can't revisit that nifty vid on YouTube, can't find out when F&F:TD comes out on DVD, can't look at componants for B's wedding necklace at Fire Mountain Gems. (This is a drag.) R & D came by last night after the 9/11 rememberence at church, with a net card that did NOT work...apparently the Dell motherboard I have is finicky about whether or not it'll see new hardware. They'll try again on Sunday because the trip back and forth is too expensive in terms of gas for their van.
On the positive side, L. made me an offer last night (No--not *that* kind of offer!). We're having a crafts fair at church in a couple months, and she's in charge of it. She says since she's going to be running around managing things, she'd like me to watch her booth, and in return, she'll share the space with me, no charge. To which I replied yes-yes-yes! (Unless I have a Real Job that conflicts.) I've been accumulating jewelery for just such a contingency...I can't afford to sign up for a whole booth, and I'm not sure I'd have *that* much stuff...but this will give me a foot in the door, and if nothing sells, at least I'm not out any money.
There's one good thing that can be said for the DVD player in my bedroom getting zapped---I'm having to watch movies in the living room, which means I've been slowly whittling down the ungodly mess on my coffee table. (A task which reached critical mass when I moved things around to get the fridge in.) When I say it was six inches deep all over, I'm not exaggerating...it was deeper in some parts. My beading componants are little by little being organized. I'm maybe a third of the way done...yes, I've got way too much stuff and it's gotten way out of hand.
Meanwhile, tomorrow there's a job fair that I've committed to going to, even though it means driving 20 miles each way. (I'm signed up with two temp agencies closer to home and have gotten fuck-all through them.) I have multiple copies of my resume, and I'm going to wear one of my good suits. Fingers crossed for me, darlings, because I don't know what I'm going to do if I don't get a job SOON.
I'm sure there's more I wanted to say, but that's the hell of not being able to post as the spirit moves me. Four things will no doubt occur to me an hour after I've left the safe haven of Kathy's computer, which IS an improvement on the library, since I can laugh when something is amusing and no one's going to chastize me for reading porn (or read over my shoulder, which is just as bad).
