vanillafluffy: (plot bunny ankles)
Ah, stealth bunnies. Once in a while they pop up, those compact plots that hop onto the page in a few hours, and it's nice to get them. I never used to be able to write short. Everything wanted to be epic, and epic never got written. If there's once thing I've learned from my soujourn in fan fiction, it's the pleasure of capturing a vignette. A sketch, not a portrait. A snapshot, not a trilogy in hi-rez Dolby. A moment, an hour, perhaps a day---not a saga of generations.

In this case, it's my first holiday fic of the season. (I have a tendency toward holiday stories**; I've even done one for Arbor Day, for cryin' out loud!) Nothing major; even with the disclaimer, it'll barely break 2,ooo words. It's another SPN fic, fluffy in the extreme, inspired by this: http://alethialia.livejournal.com/237118.html and the subsequent exchange of comments.

Went grocery shopping again---I needed more minutes for my phone, and got entirely too carried away, but I definitely have enough provisions to last two weeks without running out of anything crucial. Since I have eggs and cheese, I grabbed some evaporated milk with the thought of making a panful of chilies rellenos for no-fuss breakfasts. They had a buy-one-get-one-free sale on split chicken breasts, and I needed things like kitchen garbage bags and loo roll. (And the new Mary Engelbreit Home Companion, which I regard as equal parts cultural experience and mental health investment.)

I *ought* to invest in a big set of sealable containers---I have a few pieces, but not enough for the way I think I'm going to start cooking. With the weird hours I'm working, I'm trying NOT to come home and eat, and in the afternoon, I'm running around trying to get out the door. So getting my cooking done over Sunday/Monday is looking more and more like the least stressful option.

SG from church is here mowing my yard---I need to do something nice for him and his wife, they've been so helpful....

vanillafluffy: (words are magic)
As peeves go, I suppose there are more important things I could bitch about, but still, it annoys me. Lately, there's a cliche I keep running across--it's in every other sex scene I read, it seems like---during foreplay, they refer to someone "ghosting" their hands across their partner's torso. (And every time I read it, I think, I'm ticklish. I will full-on Swayze the fool who tries "ghosting" me.) Enough with the pseudo-evocative verbage! Try simple, common English words: touch, stroke, caress, fondle. This "ghost" shit has got to be exorcized.

Interested in espionage? (You know who you are.) I ran across this, and it struck me as an interesting jumping-off point for all kinds of things, none of which I have any immediate plans to write. Since we're coming into the season of giving, and I try to be generous with my surplus bunnies, feel free to hug it and squeeze it and call it Jools George.
