Today is GK's birthday. She isn't on LJ, so it isn't as if she's going to see this, but I AM thinking of her. We've known each other since 1978, when we were in our school drama club production of Arsenic and Old Lace together. There was a four-year difference in our ages; her oldest brother is my age, and we ended up hanging out quite a bit. Her family semi-adopted me...her mom, K, has been like a mother to me for longer than my mother actually was a mother to me, and after my dad died, I was automatically invited to all the holiday festivities, since I didn't have any other near relatives.

She and I used to write together, too, back in the day. We passed spiral-bound notebooks back and forth. She'd do a chapter, I'd do a chapter, and we'd spin these painfully bad (from a mature POV) stories with drug smugglers, kidnappings, swordfights and completely clueless smut...with Mary Sues battling for supremacy. *shudder*

Sadly, she no longer writes. She is, however, a demon seamstress, who does costuming for Renaissance festivals and the like. Apparently, that's the gift the Creativity Fairy bestowed on her...once in a while, I can get her to beta for me, which is great, because she's a shark about finding convolutions in logic ("He's doing what and what at the same time? How many arms does he have?!")---but she's gotten rather prim in her old age (!!!) and won't beta smut...which lets out quite a bit of my output.

She's currently living 1500 miles away, and I miss her something rotten. Fortunately, she gets down here a couple times a year for visits, or I'd be completely berefit.

Here's wishing you a great birthday, GK, and a wonderful New Year.
