I actually went to Wal*Mart this afternoon. It occured to me that if I did some shopping now, in theory I don't HAVE to go anywhere until Monday. So, during the time when I'd usually be having lunch/getting dressed/driving to Melbourne, I was wandering around W*M snagging groceries, leftover Halloween candy, and $3 Faded Glory tank tops, because at that price, I'm not going to pass up a shot at cheap, solid color tanks. *mind boggles* This is weird and wonderful!

So far, knock wood, I'm coping well with The Job, although I did have a brief, panic-stricken episode this afternoon when I had to figure out how the fuck do I transfer?! (Now I know.) My calls come in on my computer, which displays what partner I'm answering for, and I have an amplifier that goes to my headset---NOT headphones, one of those little ear-piece thingies---to mute between calls, at least, IF I can reach it before the next call comes in. They were back-to-back tonight, too. Not too many troublemakers, and a buttload of orders, mostly Trendicrap. (Another one of their "Take 30% of clearance items", which they seem to be running regularly now at the beginning of the month.)

I stayed logged in after my shift, and dealt with a lot of the little details of "housekeeping" that I'd usually skive off---doing requests on orders, follow-ups on previous requests---the kind of thing that doesn't seem like such a chore, under the circs. I mean, looking at a 20+ mile drive, a half-dozen "little things" become "a monumental pain in the ass and I just want to go home!" Here, it's a fifteen or twenty minute task, and granted, I don't get paid for it, but if I want to, I can go get a chilled beverage and wander around for a few minutes, don't have to lock and unlock the computer (which is a freaking nuisance!) or trek halfway across the former-department-store-sized building to take a leak. It doesn't delay my homecoming, because I'm already home.

Life is good!

This is part of my "Putting the 'NO' in November" series...basically, I'm cleaning out my docs folder of WIPs that aren't making any progress because there are too many other bunnies and not enough time to write them all.

Title: July, 1976
Authored by: [livejournal.com profile] vanillafluffy
Pairing: John/Mary
Rating/Work-safeness: PG-13, language
Approx. word count: 1800 (This is unfinished, and will remain so, but I outline my plans for it.)
Disclaimer: All rights belong to Kripke, etc.
Summary: My version of how John met Mary, a reaction against all those cheesy "love at first sight" fics. And yes, I am actually old enough to remember the Bicentennial.

A dusty black car slows and eases onto the shoulder ahead of her car. The driver gets out and swaggers over to her, and Mary detests him on first sight. )

I'm only posting this here, but feel free to pimp if you like it.
