vanillafluffy: (all about fluff)
The interior of the house seems dim after hours on the front porch. Blue paint stains my fingers and there's a sense of semi-productive accomplishment.

You see, there was this Chinese dragon---no, really. April Fool's Day was yesterday. The dragon in question is ceramic, about 8" tall by 16" long, and S gave it to me unfinished---gawd, it must be two years ago. Most of it was glazed or painted---the base is gray, claws black, it has flaring red nostrils and the wings and ridges of armor are bright yellow and seafoam green. And the whole winding scaly body was naked white bisque. Ugh!

I had a can of turquoise blue paint---my favorite color, actually---that I'd grabbed a couple of years ago on an Oops table at Home Depot, and decided that I'd dig out one of my rattier ceramics brushes and fill in the blanks. Which I proceded to do. The blue works well with the colors that were already on it. It's not perfect, won't win any prizes, but hey, IT'S DONE. I've got it up on the terrace wall, where it will greet visitors.

Once that was completed, I was on a roll. I transfered the paint from the rusty old can it was in to a plastic jar with a screwtop lid, and used the bit that was left in the can to paint the frame of a cork board that I keep at the front door for messages. Still some left in the botton of the can, so I grabbed the stack of terra cotta flower pots that I'm planning to pot the tomatoes in---I left the rims natural but painted the body of the pots blue, so that when they're on the red brick wall, there'll be brick, blue, and a stripe of terra cotta (similar to the brick color).

Yes, there are probably other things I could've spent two-and-a-half hours doing, but it was therapeutic, and gave me an idea for the Dexter fic. Now if I can just manage to write it! I need to run out to the store, and there's a fresh Criminal Minds tonight, AND it seems to focus on Rossi, which enhances the squee, because Joe Mantegna Is one of my favorite slightly older men.

It's all good!
