vanillafluffy: (Flowered hat)
I'm playing hooky from church---I've been there for the last nine consecutive Sundays, so this is a day of rest for me---and I'm hoping to get some stuff done around the house. My closets are in dire need of rearranging, I'd like to get my herb seedlings planted and there's always laundry to do.

Yesterday, my friend and I brunched at Cracker Barrel, then proceeded to Catherine's, where I got two new pairs of pants for about $25. One pair is dark violet, ultra wide-legged, lined---I'm going to wear it to CUUPs tomorrow evening with one of my Wild Woman jackets---the other is more of a grape-colored tweed, also wide-legged, which I think I'll save for the cruise with GK. (Two weeks, yay!)

Also, if you're looking for something to do this afternoon, you might take ten minutes (if that!) to read and comment on Vaudeville Isn't Dead, http://vanillafluffy.livejournal.com/330973.html, the plot bunny I was wrestling with last weekend. Enjoy!

Today has been pretty good.

I watered all the seedlings, cleared some of the dead overgrowth from the vines on the front porch, and noticed the Confederate jasmine is about to bloom.

Worked on two stories; Posse has passed the 2K word mark. I suspect it's going to wind up somewhere beyond 10K, just because there's a lot going on. No Dexter tonight. *pout* This is almost as annoying as the TV From Hell, the one in my bedroom that's hooked up to the DVR. I can't get a picture---it does this intermittently---which means I haven't been able to watch last night's Torchwood. (Did watch the ep Out of Time last night on DVD though. Steamy bits! Yum!)

Settled onto the couch and finished The Sunflower Hat, which is quite fun. The hat itself is brown, it has beige and brown polka-dot ribbons around the brim and the crown (hand-stitched last week), and now it has a mixture of silk sunflowers (five of them), some leaves and three small orange things that look like blushing buttercups.

Rather than trying to stitch the flowers directly to the hat, I sewed them to a band of black mesh screening and tacked that in place to the front of the band to cover up where the ribbon overlaps. The band on the brim is unobstructed, but the band on the crown is covered about halfway back on both sides. On the back of the brim, where the overlap is, I carefully anchored one small sunflower so the effect is of one flower on the dotted band with the ribbon on the back of the crown bare. (Yeah, I need pictures.)

Kat and I are doing lunch and a movie tomorrow. The plan is to rendezvous at the mall at 11:30, do Piccadilly and catch the early matinee of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. (Hey, it's got Ciaran Hinds in it, how bad can it be?!)

After the film lets out, I'll have a couple hours between then and my CUUPs meeting, so it should be a well-rounded day.
