This weekend is definitely proving to be a mixed bag. Was up at OMG and went down to Melbourne for my check...slightly late start because on the way over here, [livejournal.com profile] missybrat had a close call in traffic and stayed to give accident details. Got check, deposited it, headed over to IHoP for breakfast and called GK from there (less than a mile from Kat's, figured it was a good location to hook up).

Bought them breakfast, then GK and I returned to my place (nearly noon by this time!), where we labored for 2 1/2 hours on the middle room. When I say we got the closet done, that probably doesn't *sound* like a lot, but first we had to get TO the closet. Ended up with several bags o' trash, and a sizeable pile of donations.

Formerly, my closet held my "wish list"---all the stuff I wish I could get into. That's all been packed away, and now it's holding the overflow from my closet---because I have a two-bar closet system in my bedroom, anything long, like coats or dresses, needed to go elsewhere. The bureau in there now has three out of four drawers empty---the other one needs to be sorted through---and I found quite a few "THAT'S where that went!" items, like my beauty school mannequin (circa 1950, with real hair and glass eyes...I foresee a rearrangement of my hat display in the near future).

Logged in for work and it did NOT go well. By this time, I'd hit the wall---lack of sleep, sore muscles, back-to-back calls---I ended up calling out around 5:30. I feel bad about it, because it's going to hurt my adherence, but when I accidentally hung up on someone I'd just spent 20 minutes helping, I knew it was for the best.

I went to bed early and feel okay this morning---looking forward to the cruise---but had a call from Missybrat, who apparently pinched a nerve during her close call and didn't feel it until later---she and B aren't going to make it. *pout* Bugger all!

Ah, well, there's nothing I can do about it. Meanwhile, I'm going to scare up some breakfast and finish getting ready. TTFN!

The cruise went well. I spent $12 on the slots (Did NOT quit while I was ahead!), hit the free buffet, got refills of diet cola, and spent a couple hours up on deck in the sunlight scribbling away in a steno pad. Got 8+ pages done, yay me!

The adventure on the high seas was worth every nickel, because as I was noshing, I had an apostrophe. (I mean, an epiphany.) There's this story I started a few days ago and I've not been happy with it. For two reasons: one, it was threatening to grow out of control, and two, the PoV was just wrong. In order for it to convey everything the reader needed to know, it had to have an omniscient narrator, and I figured out *how* to do that. *And,* thanks to that revelation, it's not going to take a zillion words.

I am definitely pink on my upper arms, face not so much because I had my hat on. I wore my two-tone blue cowboy hat with the white button band, a sleeveless turquoise blue shirt with ruching, and the new purple tweed pants, which need to be hemmed before I break my neck tripping on them. (This is an experience I have never, ever had in living memory---something too long for ME? No freakin' way!)

Stopped off at Wal*mart on the way home and nailed a few groceries and miscellaneous stuff like purple thread so I can hem those pants...am going to see if GK and I can hook up after church tomorrow so I can get a hand with that. I don't mind hand-sewing if need be---hell, compared to all the buttons on that hat, hemming pants is nothing!

I still have to work from 9 PM to 11:30, because I couldn't get the whole day off, but WTF, it's money, and I've had a much easier day than yesterday.

TTFN.
