vanillafluffy: (Success failure)
Thanks to conking out so early on Saturday---and the 12-hour nap---I seem to have reset my sleep schedule. I'm waking up at or a little before 9AM, which for me is pretty good.

Today Kat has a doctor visit and tomorrow she's down for an MRI. The doctor visit will be followed by numerous errands, oh joy.

I was over at her place yesterday to check on her meds, and it was something of a trial...I know it's beyond her control, but virtually everything she talked about was something she's told me about 2, 3, 4 times already.

It's like I'm mourning her, but she's still alive. I'm with her, and I miss her.

Maybe this is what all those customer service jobs were for---to develop my patience to the level where I can cope with this.

Okay, enough of this. Let's all talk about cheerful things before I start gnawing on my wrists. I took a closer look at the gift card Red gave me, and holy shit, that's a 5, not a 2. There's The Cleaner tonight, Leverage tomorrow and the season premiere for SPN on Thursday. I've managed to keep my sink emptied for a whole week. The weather is a tiny bit less hot. Tomorrow is 09/09/09---how cool is that?!

I have a concept, I just need a plot. I know, that's maddeningly vague. I just don't want to give up too much before I start to write it.

Okay, let's use The Wizard of Oz as a metaphor. Basically, I want to send my "Dorothy" over the rainbow. That's the basic concept. The deus machinae isn't a tornado, it's a cave. Our Dorothy goes in, gets trapped by a rockfall, and in looking for a way out, stumbles into an AU populated by variants of canon characters. Dorothy has to a) help the pseudo-canon characters and b) return to Kansas. My AU characters aren't necessarily going to have the same relationship with Dorothy---or each other---as their canon counterparts. Meanwhile, back in Kansas, the real canon characters are trying to a) save Dorothy and b) complete the quest they were originally engaged in. It would be helpful if the two quests could mirror each other in some way.

I already have the idea that there's a treasure map/clue to the location of the McGuffin. It was created in AU Kansas, it's going to be the equivalent of the ruby slippers---sought by the villain in both versions of Kansas. I have an idea of what's going to happen to the villain in AU Kansas, just not how I'm going to get there. Canon Kansas is going to be trickier...figure that Mr and Mrs Gale and the farmhands are under siege by something more sentient than a tornado, like maybe the Widow Gulch AND the local authorities.

What I *think* I'm going to do is, since posting is open for a week, do a multi-part epic; I think alternating the worlds would heighten suspense.

1. Dorothy beginning -- drama
2. Previously, in canon -- exposition
3. And then, Dorothy -- suspense
4. Meanwhile, in canon -- suspense
5. Next, Dorothy -- cliffhanger
6. Meanwhile, in canon -- cliffhanger
7. Dorothy conclusion -- warm fuzzies Miller Time payoff

Well, this has at least given me an idea of the structure, although I still need details. Decisions, decisions!
