Dogs, diversions and the wardrobe...
Mar. 14th, 2010 01:30 pmYesterday's event went well. As usual, we gave out some cards, took a few names, and met a lot of dogs.
This event was SPCA-sponsored, so they were stressing their own needs; we weren't besieged by rescue groups as we were at the last couple events. (I find rescue a thoroughly admirable cause, mind you, it's just that we got stuck next to doxies one week and beagles the next---yappy little fuckers, both of 'em.)
This time, we had free salsa and chips on one side and the booth for the SPCA Thrift Store on the other side. I didn't have a lot of money on me, but for $2, I got a copy of "Cesar's Way" by Cesar Millan, and J treated me to a $3 pink mock-croc tote bag as a thank you. I also snagged a jar of homemade mango chutney---they were giving out free samples, and it was OMGnom-nom-nom!
We had gorgeous weather---so far, three weekend events and they're all been beautiful---and there was a good turnout. Most memorable dogs: A pair of black and tan Dobermans, a pair of Old English sheepdogs (I think this is the first time I've seen them in the fur, and they were HUGE---but you'd have to keep them inside in the air during the summer if you live in Florida. VERY furry.), a Newfie, and OMG a Bouvier des Flanders. I love Bouvs, but ditto air for them and the Newfs. And, the highlight of my day, even more than the Bouv, were the Corgis. A gal who's with Corgi rescue came by with a pack of four---three Cardigans and a Pembroke, while three more Pembrokes also attended individually.
Came home, lay down for an hour's nap---enough that I was able to think straight (four hours sleep isn't enough any more) but not so much that I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Spent the evening dividing my attention between "The Gangs of New York" on AMC and "Cesar's Way". Set my clock ahead and turned off the light at the old midnight. That turned out to be good timing, since I was up early enough to run to WalMart and snag a box of donuts to take to church. Very small crowd today---everyone must've been staying in.
One of the things about having a sizeable wardrobe and a lack of organization, sometimes things drop out of sight for a while, and when they resurface, it's almost like getting something new. This week, I ran across a black and white skirt that I got last spring---I wore it a few times, washed it, and it disappeared into the garage/laundry room. The print is kind of Art Nouveau paisley, and being neutral black and white, it goes with pretty much any solid top. Today I wore it with a kiwi green short-sleeved top and gold sandals, both courtesy of GK, albeit at different times. I added a necklace of green and light blue/aqua beads, fruits of a long-ago yard sailing expedition with S, the pink tote and a natural straw hat with a black ribbon and bow trim.
Technically, spring may not have sprung yet, but I'm all for seizing the day and acting as if it has.
