When the phone rang Saturday morning, I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't Mb calling to say she was planning to kidnap me. Okay, maybe it wasn't completely unexpected, it's happened before, but never before on quite such a grand scale---she took me to Downtown Disney! (Which is not the same as Walt Disney World/the Magic Kingdom, although it IS on Disney property. It's mostly restaurants and boutiques, although the House of Blues is there, and Cirque du Soliel and Planet Hollywood and the like.)

I had my camera with me, although it was misbehaving: It kept shutting itself off. Mb says I need new batteries. While I'm not happy at having to pony up for new lithium---those suckers are expensive---better that than my camera going sour, cuz I love my digital camera!

ExpandAnyway, I got pictures--- )

Hot on the heels of my new and improved living room and my visit to Disney Quest comes an email from GK---she'll be down in a little under three weeks for a 5-day solo vacation!

I sent her pix of the living room on Friday, including one with the sofa-bed folded out and the caption, "The guest suite awaits you!". I can't say for sure that that tipped the balance, but she's coming in on the 25th.

She'll be landing around noon and renting a minivan (since apparently it's cheaper than a car, go figure). The evening will probably be spent socializing, depending on who we can round up.

Saturday is going to be a day-trip to the Tampa Renfest. The Bay Area Renaissance Festival, to give it its proper title, is something we were both very imvolved with back in the day, although her more than me; she was a Well Wench for a couple seasons.

In those days, the BARF* was held in a truly lovely wooded site---if there weren't too many Muggles around, you could imagine you were in a small rural village sometime before 1500. It moved to a new site a few years ago, which neither of us has seen. I have a feeling that there'll be a certain amount of "You can't go home again" to it, but still, Renfest=FUN.

We'll be meeting DocBizarre en famile over there. We being me and GK and whoever else shows up to fill the other five seats. Possibly BC and his crew or some combo thereof.

A mutual friend of ours had a stroke last year, and GK wants to run up to Georgia to visit her, although the details of that aren't set yet.

This gives me something to look forward to as I continue to declutter!

* At the end of each season, the cast got together and had a mock-awards banquet called the Barffies.

Did a bit of rooting around in the living room this evening. Sorted a basket full of old bills and such, winnowed about 75% of it to shred. Started work on the entertainment unit that I want the new (inherited from Kat a year ago) TV to go into. The difficulty with that is, the e-unit is packed with stuff from top to bottom.

I started in the middle, figuring if nothing else, I could empty it out and get the TV off the floor and into that big opening. Encountered a large box filled with four old purses (one with reciepts dated August 1999) and a bunch of cassette tapes. I don't even know where my cassette player is, but with my luck, if I pitch them, I'd end up with a very retro vehicle as my next car. They're jinx protection, pure and simple.

In addition to the e-unit, there are two bookcases crammed with tapes dating back to 1984 when I got my first VCR. Getting rid of them (or at least 90% of them) will free up TONS of space and let me move the bookcases elsewhere.

Seriously, Fluffy? The Commish? Is available on DVD. These? Are VHS! The vid equivalent of 8-track, FFS. And Iron Chef TOS is on the Cooking Channel every day.

I have a credenza destined for the living room---it's going to replace the other e-unit, the one my old TV is in now. I'm not keeping any more tapes than will fit in its three bottom drawers, and possibly not even that many. (The long-term plan being to either rip them or get the corresponding DVDs. A few things have never made it to DVD, like The Burning Zone, Vengeance Unlimited, Wildside, Misfits of Science---so I need to sort carefully.) Fortunately, the important stuff was labeled. Let's just hope it's all still playable!
