I feel like I just dodged a bullet
Mar. 30th, 2011 12:25 pmI've spent the last week praying: Please, God, don't let them turn anything off before GK gets here.
FPL (electric) was a close call; last week, I wrote a check for the guy who showed up at my door to turn me off, and then begged an advance on future dog-sitting services from PJ. Got it to the bank by close of business, the lights stayed on.
Now that she's departed (this morning, at oh-dark-thirty), I've been praying for nothing to get turned off before I get the check I *should* get this weekend. This morning, as I was doggedly sorting the bin of spices sitting on my counter, there was a knock at the door.
I scrambled to pull something over my head, and found a gal from BrightHouse (cable/internet) on my doorstep. Thankfully, she wasn't here to turn me off, just a reminder that I'm severrely delinquent.
As I was closing the door, I noticed a pink slip of cardstock on the sill: the city water department was also here this morning. And yet, I still have running water.
It's going to be a nail-biter---deciding what to pay with the money I'll have*, but for the moment at least, normal life continues.
0=0=0=0=0=0=0=0=0
* Because in addition to utilities, I still have insurance that absolutely positively HAS to be paid OR ELSE. Hard choices loom....
