Okay, this is total pie-in-the-sky, NOT something that is practical in my life right now. But it's a cool idea, and I just wanted to get it on record.

As a card-carrying Former Horse Crazy Kid, I was intrigued when I saw someone's craft project of a bouncy horse body grafted onto a pole like a carousel horse. Like so:

There are quite a few of them out there; this one is for illustrative purposes and not as an exact depiction of what I'd do.* (Pink and mauve roses? I think not.) But anyway, I've seen them, and thought it was a really cool idea, BUT. It would take up an awful lot of real estate and doesn't really DO anything.

Then the light dawned. What if the pole was hollow, and there was a light on the top? That would certainly help it earn its keep. Still, that's a helluva big floor lamp. So why not get a side table or coffee table with two levels and run the pole thru that? I just so happen to have such a table, a really tacky 60's number. Both levels are marble, and the posts are baroque and gilded to a fair-thee-well. The whole thing would work fabulously with an antique gold pole and fixtures and an intricately painted pony.

I know, wild idea. And I'd have to find an old bouncy horse to repurpose. It's not like there's any hurry, though. I'm miles away from having a guest room to put it in....

* I think maybe an hommage to Scandinavian dala horses....

It's not clean-clean, I wouldn't go that far, but I've scratched the surface of my kitchen, enough that I can get to the microwave. Glory be, I can nuke some of the stuff in my freezer. There's enough countertop freed up that I can attempt actual cooking---I'm contemplating mac-n-cheese---so I can use some of my vast stockpile. The fridge is still a biohazard zone, but one thing at a time....

What prompted this flurry of productivity? Several things: 1) The temps dipped to a balmy 84F today. While still warm, it's not so frackin hot that I feel simmered in my own sweat. 2) GK is going to be down in three short weeks, and she may be staying here the final night of her stay. (This also means I'll have to excavate the living room again, which is good, since I'll be able to get the new curtains hanged. I've had them for about four months, it's time they went up.) And 3) I'd arranged to take a bunch of dishes over to J's tomorrow and wash them there in her a/c'ed kitchen. However, she's got some drama going on, and I have a feeling it's not going to happen.

So...June's going to be busy. Because in addition to trying to raise the standards of habitation to "civilized", I *also* have to go through my wardrobe and collect the items I want GK's help with for tailoring. There's so much stuff that doesn't *quite* fit: Skirts with waistbands that are halfway down my hips, pants with hems that are under my heels, tops that need darts to give them shape, dresses that need overhauled---we'll be occupied for a while!

Oh, and first of the month progress report? 283, meaning I've lost a spectacular one whole pound. Hey, it's better than gaining!

After the mac-n-cheese, I went back out and shifted more stuff around. Discovered that quite a bit of the clutter on the living room floor was empty shopping bags. As with the kitchen, it isn't clean-clean, but it's better.

I also whacked an opening in the heap of boxes between the kitchen and dining room. I was right: I *did* have a full carton of ramen somewhere. In this case, buried under empty 12-pack cartons.

This is the most I've gotten done in months.
