Flash!

Here's a thrilling bit of news--the Guild, our local art-house theater, will be showing Flash Gordon next month, and GK and I have both gotten tickets to see it. I'm old enough that I actually saw it theatrically during its initial release, and after last month's close encounter with Sam Jones, I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.

I'm rather taken aback to realize that it came out 40 years ago. How is that possible?! But it's fun--even though contemporary CGI dates it, it still has Sam as bleached blond as they come in those little black leather shorts, and Timothy Dalton (first thing I ever saw him in) channeling his inner Errol Flynn, scene-chewing Max Von Sydow, those gorgeous beaded headdresses and of course, QUEEN, which created one of the best soundtracks ever recorded for any movie, ever. How many times have I seen it? Honestly, I have no idea. I lost count about 35 years ago, because in addition to seeing it at the movies, it's been on Home Box Office (That's what HBO stands for, in case you didn't remember!) and network, and I had it on VHS and I had the soundtrack. So yeah, I'm enthusiastic, and will probably drive GK mad quoting dialog along with the characters.

I've been busy in the office. The initial going-over with GK helped quite a lot. Between getting rid of crap and organizing the rest while looking for my personal documents, I actually had room to get at what was left! I used an over-the-door rack to move the Long-Term Goal leather jacket into the closet, another one to corral a few shopping bags...it's mind-blowing to see all that space!

Oh look! I've gotten more artwork up! (Still in need of a few good picture frames, but I'm not unhappy with my progress.) I'm contemplating how I'm going to rearrange what's already up...I have a map of the US and a Route 66 sign, which are up, and a stack of license plates which aren't...I'd like to put the license plates just below the ceiling, but that's going to have to wait...hopefully I'll lose enough weight that I can get up on a step-stool without fear of falling--it really is that bad. I have other assorted "destination" souvenirs I'd like to display...and hopefully add to. Work in progress....

Yes, in theory I could get GK to hang them, but honestly, it's so difficult to get her over here that I'd rather use her time for more important things. She blew me off this week to work on a presentation she was giving for ASFS (which she's known about for at least a month) and last week, she was an hour late getting here because she was trying to find some paperwork for her mom's insurance (Kat passed in 2010, it wasn't an emergency) so we barely had time to go to the movie, not to do anything around the house. This is why I say that sometimes dealing with her is like being gas-lighted--sometimes she's helpful and generous and all that, and other times she's singularly unhelpful and pathologically parsimonious and acts like I'm a major thorn in his side. I'm bracing myself; tomorrow and Wednesday, we're doing flower deliveries. Last year, we did three days for the GOOD florist. this year, we're doing one day with them, and one with a different outfit that pays half as much. Last year, I cleared enough to get my iPad (used from SBJB). This year, I'll be happy to make enough for those picture frames. Or a couple high-end DVDs. Or any of a half-dozen things that never seem to make it into the budget. *sigh*

Anyway, I'm gnna go watch some Olympics now. That kid that won gold in the snowboarding event reminds me of Tom Holland. Spidenman with a snowboard. The mind boggles.
