Nah, these days, "spunky heroine" sounds too much like a drugged-out hooker. Alas.
Anyway, went and saw Flash Gordon, which was highly excellent, although I think I may have reached the dreaded stage of "If it's too loud, you're too old", because during the pre-show serenade of Queen's Greatest Hits, I was cringing at the decibel level. Damn, when did that happen?!
I ended up skipping the ASFS auction. It was the same night as Flash, and I'd gotten up ultra-early for an estate sale (egregiously overpriced!), was having some digestive issues, and just didn't have the energy for that, too. GK reported that I probably would've had an aneurysm, because that ONE person who has a high-paying job and hoarding tendencies bought practically everything. Yeah, that's another reason I skipped it, because after the estate sale, GK and I cruised a thrift store that was having a killer St. Patrick's Day sale, a week early.
Their angle was, anything with green on it or in it was half price. That meant everything from a nice green top to a pair of tumblers with green in the pattern to a stack of books with green on their covers to a couple things with green price tags--I spent $30, which is a lot, for me, and I already knew wanted the commemorative poster for Flash...we have a local artist, John Sanchez, who creates posters for the Guild's vintage movies. He posted a picture of this one on the site--it's on a gold metallic background, *very* dramatic, and that was another $20. So, after blowing $50 in one day on non-essentials, I figured getting a few hours sleep before the show would be more constructive than spending more money and/or not spending money because I was being continually thwarted.
Speaking of concerts, Lindsey Sterling is coming to ABQ in August...it may take that long for me to work out the logistics of getting there and back, because the disabled transport buses DO NOT go to the casinos, which is where the venue is. (They also don't run late at night; I think they stop around 10? so no joy there, either.) And it's about ten miles out of town, so forget Lyft--I'd have to sell a kidney. I'm dying to go, though. I think she's amazing. The only thing better than her would be her on a double bill with the 2 Cellos, which would kill me with happiness.
Although that may happen yet--they've announced that Dropkick Murphys are going to be touring this summer with Flogging Molly, and my eyes rolled back in my head and I howled with glee (No word on what the neighbors think!). That right there is just fucking PERFECT.
They haven't released the actual details yet--no idea about dates or locations--but GK has proposed a roadtrip if they're anywhere close, say Denver or Phoenix. Pray for me, guys. I've seen the Murphys in concert and it was off the chain, but not Flogging Molly, and they are one of my ultimate bands.
In other news, after nearly six months of nagging, I finally got to a DMV (or MVD as it's called here) and renewed my ID card. It expired at the end of September, and I'm relieved that that's taken care of.
GK didn't have much time; in-laws in from out of town--have I ever mentioned I loathe her in-laws?!--but we got to Walmart Optical, because I've had my "new" eyeglasses scrip since...last September!...and really need a new pair. Haven't settled on anything yet--we're going around to a couple places tomorrow afternoon for comparison purposes.
After my cataract surgeries, I could see so much better than I've ever been able to in my life. I went from literally being legally blind to not needing glasses most of the time, and that was after wearing glasses since I was 11. Heaven knows, I needed them sooner, but it took me not being able to read the blackboard from the front row for the adults to get with the program. Anyway, I'm about 20/40 without them; I can usually make out subtitles on the TV. I wouldn't want to drive without them, but as it is, I can read most signs and I can see oncoming traffic--before I was officially diagnosed with cataracts, driving was terrifying, because it seemed like cars were coming out of nowhere. *shudder*
Although my finances are such that I no longer have a car, I do in fact have a perfectly valid Florida driver's license, good through 2020. I looked into converting it while I was at the MVD. But I didn't have glasses, so I kinda flunked the eye exam. So, I need glasses. Since my license doesn't expire for a while, I'm thinking I'll wait until after surgery to get it switched; hopefully in a year, I'll have fewer chins.
This week, I have an appointment with my new primary doctor. I'm not thrilled, but I need someone to renew my scrips. My bariatrics counselor, whom I see next week, says that after my surgery, I will be able to stop taking so many pills. From her lips to God's ear--because I'm tired of the tyranny of meds and having to take them with food, even on the days when I don't WANT food. The week after, oh joy, I have a double-feature (well, there IS a camera involved!)--endoscopy/colonoscopy, so let's hope that's one of those weeks when I'm not obsessed with food, because no solids for a few days beforehand. I'm not complaining--the endoscopy is necessary for surgery--that and seeing a pshrink are the last of the mandatory things I have to do. The colonoscopy...nuisance though it is, beats the hell out of dying of colon cancer like my mom did. They're going to have me knocked out for the endoscopy anyway, may as well make it a twofer and make sure nothing evil is dwelling in my nether regions. The pshrink is on the schedule for a few weeks hence. It's happening slowly, but it's happening.
