Miracle of miracles!
Jul. 9th, 2018 07:00 pmIt's amazing how the Universe sees you making an effort, rubs Its hands together (metaphorically) and says, "Hey, y'all--watch this!" After GK's departure on Friday, I kept doing little things around the house, some of which no one but me will ever notice, but still progress.
Yesterday (Sunday), she stopped by after work...woke me out of a dream about S and I going to some aquatic theme park, and brought me lunch. I'd only slept for a couple hours, since I'd been up writing, folding linens, finding places for things, etc. It was quite pleasant, because we both had places to sit comfortably, there was a clean flat surface to set the food on...and if you're thinking, "So what?" then obviously, your standards are higher than mine have been.
I took my meds and ended up getting horizontal for a few more hours. When I awoke, there was a text from her asking if I'd like concert tix to see Lindsay Sterling as my birthday present. Oh GOD yes! The concert is actually in late August, but that's okay--it almost kinda makes up for missing out on Molly and the Murphys, and I don't have to spend 16 hours on a Greyhound bus!
So I've been quite cheerful about all this. The living room being tidy makes such a huge difference! What with all that cleared space, I'm remembering why I liked that linoleum to begin with--it's a handsome pattern (too bad it's so cheap and chips so easily). I didn't do much yesterday; all that sustained effort on Friday and Saturday really knocked me out, but I did change the sheets on my bed.
When I woke up this afternoon, there was a text from GK with a picture of a table she'd seen on her Savers exploration. I've been pretty specific about what I wanted--round or hexagonal, at least 30" less than 40" across, nothing with a big footprint and no weird colors. Acquiring something to take the place of that damned card table has been going on since I've been here, which, if you haven't been counting, has been a year and a half. Goodness knows, I've seen LOTS of tables: too big, too small, too expensive, too green, bought out from under me by someone who was two steps ahead of me getting in the door of the sale--the list goes on! But today all that is DONE. My new-to-me table is occupying my kitchen. Sing hallelujah!
It's round, 31" across, has a faux marble top (Formica) on a wrought-iron look base. It wobbles a bit, the Formica is a tad tired-looking--but the size is absolutely perfect, and it was under $20. So much win!
I feel like the Universe is pleased with my efforts and is rewarding me. (You can laugh if you want to, as long as you don't try to change my mind.) Or maybe you think that's the same thing as God--I won't argue; maybe it is..I identify as a patchwork polytheist, but that's just me. YMMV.
Tomorrow, Mr. GK is out of town or busy--I don't care about the exact details, but she has an open-ended schedule after she gets off work, so we're going to see Tag* and work in my kitchen for about an hour. I need to figure out what I'm going to do with all the stuff on/around the old table, get that folded up and OUT (Hooray!) and in short, try to get it to live up to the living room.
I didn't even post last week's fic--my bad! I'm off to do that--love to all!
* It wasn't showing at a convenient time last week, so we saw Sicario 2 instead--which was
pretty intense. Over the weekend, I watched Way of the Gun on Netflix--early Benicio, when he was still kinda cute. These days he's looking a little rough, but he's still got charisma. Josh Brolin's not bad either, although he'll always be the big brother from Goonies to me. Me, babbling? Probably!
