Well, that's done
Sep. 6th, 2018 01:25 pm Bright and early Tuesday, I went to the dentist...another filling and two more extractions. I don't think I'm going to go back to that guy--he's a hack. I have nothing against him personally, but he's a crappy dentist. Every time I've come out of there feeling like he's used a can-opener on my mouth. It's not even the extractions so much as it is his total lack of finesse with the Novocaine--he jabs that needle in like he's digging for treasure, it still hurts 48 hours later--that, and his habit of leaning on my jaw for leverage.
Still, it's done. All those teeth that were broken off at the gumline are out. I still need a few fillings, and two more non-critical extractions, but I'm going to shop around for those. And it's going to be awhile before I can afford dentures.
After finding out that her dad apparently sired a half-sister before he married her mom, GK has been doing some genealogy research. I asked her nicely, and she has obligingly looked into my family tree with some exciting results. For one thing, my paternal great-grandfather had TEN siblings! And on my mother's side, she found out that one of her great-greats was a ship captain who came over to Boston from England in 1629! Wow! My mom's parents divorced when she was very young and she didn't know much in the way of family lore--so the idea of going back several centuries amazes me. (I wonder if there's a book in it?!)
She's also throwing a party for me on Sunday with fondue, ice cream and cake. (Saying that even if my mouth is still messed up, I should be able to consume all those things.) I don't know who-all is on the guest list--she just says "Some people we both know", which is fairly broad--but she's talking about playing card and/or board games. I am always up for Cards Against Humanity! This looks like it's going to be my last hurrah before surgery--I have to go on a high-protein liquid diet a couple weeks beforehand, starting the middle of next week--so I'm going to make the most of it. I know exactly what I'm going to wear--a great dress that I'd planned to wear at the Con. And between now and then, I plan to go through my pantry and offload everything that I won't be able to consume afterward and give it away. Salsa, anyone?
Love to all!
