1500 pounds of angry pot-roast
Feb. 21st, 2019 02:50 am We had a bit of snow earlier in the week. It's mostly melted, but they're predicting more on Friday. I wouldn't mind, but I have plans to see Liam Neeson's latest, "Cold Pursuit" with GK. She was supposed to be in Florida this weekend, but Things Came Up, so that trip isn't happening. She'll definitely be missing the Florida weather, if the forecasts are accurate!
I'm working on the last chapter of "One Big Happy Family". I started it AFTER I wrapped "The Man With the Silver Arm" and it's in the ballpark of 30,000 words. Thirty thousand. In what, seven weeks? And it's not the only thing I've worked on, either. Although after I wrap it and take care of a post-story story I have in mind, I think I'm going to put that verse on hold for a while. I did the math--since last April, I've done about 100.000 words of related content and I'm getting burned out. All the more because lately it's been crickets chirping...I knew they (Trixie Belden and the Three Investigators) were obscure fandoms when I started, but I'm at the point where I'd really like to dabble in something that gets a trifle more recognition.
It's been good practice, though. While fan fic is the literary equivalent of paint-by-number artwork, this 'verse has a) redeemed characters that were unsympathetic in canon and vice versa, b) given depth to background characters and c) allowed me to conjure a cast of original supporting characters to populate the verse. I still have plenty of ideas for the fandom--but I have ideas for other fandoms, too. (Not to mention four or five long WIPs that I'd like to tidy up, finish and post.) And then there's "Step Right Up", which seems to want to take over as the next major WIP. (Not what I intended when I started it--it was just supposed to be a light-hearted collection of interconnected fluff--and then angst and a post started creeping in. *sigh*)
And my DVD player is on the fritz again. It's always something!
