A couple months ago, GK brought up a possibility that I didn't allow myself to dwell on too hard...her younger son is attending college in California. He's been home for the summer, but starts back after Labor Day. For various reasons, she's driving him back to school instead of popping him onto a plane--and I'm going along for the ride! (So, apparently, are a few of his chums, but oh well). Today, she sent me confirmation for the place we're staying at for the California leg of the trip, so I feel like I can talk about it out loud without worrying that it's going to evaporate.

I don't have the exact itinerary, but I know we're spending the first night in Seligman, AZ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seligman,_Arizona), which sounds fascinating, then going on to CA where she's already booked a posh apartment for two nights--and on the way back, we're overnighting  in LAS VEGAS! Woohoo! I'm stoked. This crosses a number of things off my bucket list--I get to see California AND the Pacific, I get to add Nevada to my "States Visited" list, and not only do I get to see Las Vegas, GK has agreed to let me visit the Neon Museum, which has been one of my major destinations. Plus, y'know ROAD TRIP.

I'm less than thrilled by the prospect of doing this over Labor Day weekend, and dealing with a carful of teenagers sparks no joy, but it is what it is.  Now I DEFINITELY need to find my pool shoes, practice with my selfie stick and hold on to my pennies (literally, because I collect those squashed souvenir pennies--there are bound to be a couple opportunities to acquire some of those!).

Yay! I'm starting to be excited. Meanwhile, I have two conventions between now and then--this is shaping up to be the liveliest summer in years, and I'm totally up for it. Considering how rotten I felt a year ago, that's an absolute miracle.
