Oh god, I'm losing my mind! With the addition of LA to our itinerary, I've been trying to figure out how much activity I can *realistically* fit in in two short days. The trouble is, there's SO MUCH I want to see. Most of it  involves driving around and going "Look! It's ---!" There was a hefty list to begin with, and then I made the mistake of pulling out 'Landmarks of Los Angeles', a big ol' coffee table book I've had for 20 years (at least!) and was reminded of things like the Bradbury Building and Union Station. I don't have the exact address of where we're staying, but I have the impression it's quite close to Los Angeles City Hall--recognizable to us boomers as the Daily Planet Building from the George Reeves 'Superman" series. And I was keen to see the Ennis-Brown house (Frank Lloyd Wright rocks!)--but I'd forgotten how many projects he did in CA. And the Petersen Auto Museum, totally, which happens to be on the next block over from the La Brea Tar Pits....

My inner architecture slut is moaning--there are a bunch of FLW homes, not to mention Eames and Nutra and Schindler--the pioneers of modern architecture--I'm dying! A week wouldn't be long enough to see everything that interests me!--and we don't get there til Saturday afternoon, we leave Monday morning--! Anyone who's been here longer than five minutes knows what a film geek I am--I want to see it all! From cheesy stuff like the Walk of Fame and Graumann's Chinese Theater (or whatever they're calling it these days) to the morbid Forest Lawn, Westwood Cemetary--did you know that Hugh Hefner is entombed beside Marilyn Monroe? He bought that crypt saying he loved the idea of spending eternity beside her, since she was the first Playboy "Sweetheart" (as Playmates were referred to at the time) and did so much to launch his empire.

So I need to plan assiduously, because of course, GK and the kids have things they want to do...the kids are hot to see Little Tokyo, which is allegedly within walking distance of our pied-a-terre, while GK has her heart set on going to a cosmetics company that's nowhere near us (I've looked it up on a map; we're talking about fifteen miles on the freeway and  five more on surface streets).. My bias is showing--I don't really do cosmetics and I sure as fuck can think of better things to do with $35 than spend it on ONE tube of lipstick!--Little Tokyo is at least culturally significant.

The other legs of the trip...it turns out that college town ISN'T the town I thought it was. Not a big deal, and in fact, I'm hoping she'll think it's close enough for a side trip to the Mission of San Juan Capistrano. (Did you know the character 'Zorro' was introduced in a story called 'The Curse of Capistrano'?!)

And Vegas--I shrieked when I found out that the Hollywood Car Museum is literally a block from our hotel. Holy cannoli, that's going to be epic! (
http://hollywoodcarsmuseum.com/film-tv-cars-gallery/) Really, could it get any better?! GK has already said yes to the Neon Museum, but this is close enough for me to walk to while she does whatever. *does Snoopy dance*

The way I see it, this is the trip of a lifetime, and I want to make the most of it. I'll probably spend the rest of the month living on the contents of my pantry, but goddamn, I'm going to have fun if it kills me!
