I got undertime early yesterday, so I was able to attend the Haunted Sleepover at church---the whole thing. Which turned out to be something of an anticlimax, since there were only four other people there and the party broke up early instead of going on all night. Still, undertime---there's been very little of that lately, but the phones were fairly quiet, so...Miracle #1.

I hit the road just in time for the 5PM Friday rush. Oh, joy! It was bright and sunny when I got out of work, but just a few miles down the road, the sky was black. No hyperbole: The clouds north of Melbourne were dark with water.

Now, if you've joined this journal already in progress, let me confide that I've had some heavy-duty anxiety issues. The first couple of months, I had to nerve myself up just to drive to Melbourne---or home from same---regardless of the weather. If I hadn't been completely desperate for a job, I NEVER would've set myself up for that stress, because my comfort zone was about 3 miles square and I practically hid under the bed rather than drive in the rain---any rain!

There was a bit of drippy mist north of Eau Gallie, then it started seriously pissing down at Post Road---which means nothing to most of you, from from there to the Patrick Causeway, a distance of some 4-5 miles, it was all I could do to see the lines on the road and the cars ahead of and beside me. Didn't whimper or pull off to the shoulder, which I've been known to do when the weather scared me---nope, I gripped the wheel and did about 30 mph, and at that, I actually passed another car.

It trailed off just before the causeway, and the rest of the drive home rained lightly and intermittently. Considering that that would've once been impossible for me---without a full-scale freak-out, I'm looking at that as Miracle #2.

Tomorrow, Red is meeting me durng my lunch break and bringing me my belated birthday present: Iron Man: the DVD. Yay! Because RDJ falls within the parameters of a type I've gone for forever: dark hair and Bambi-brown bedroom eyes...just sayin'!

Oh, and I've had my first-ever request from someone who wants to post a translation of one of my stories: a Russian chick wants to do End Game. Mega-yay! An "international best-seller"!

*hugs you* Thanks! I'm still at the point where it kind of surprises me when I *don't* have a panic attack---because I remember how BAD it was. Mostly I'm just annoyed at having to commute in the first place---but I'm taking deep breaths and trying to be zen about it.

If it's any consolation, I'm the EXACT SAME WAY about driving in bad weather .... and up here we have snow and ice to contend with. *grimace*

Yay Iron Man! My hubby got us the DVD last week....I see many re-watches in my future. ;)

And it occurs to me, that RDJr and JDM both have similar eyes/eyebrows....maybe I DO have a 'type'. ;)

I don't get around much---I've NEVER driven anywhere but the state of Florida---hell, I haven't even SEEN snow for the last 20 years!

RDJ also reminds me quite a bit of Johnny Depp (in looks, but also in the fact that I'd never noticed them until a blockbuster came along), or Benjamin Bratt, Christian Bale or my ex.... Yeah, I definitely have a type, although it's not exclusive by any means!

Whoooo-hooooo. International best-seller indeed.

I gotta say, this is the second post on my f-list today that's making me exceedingly happy for my state of non-driverhood. That's just no way to live.

The trouble with this area is, the mass transit is for shit. If you need to get around locally during the day, fine, but long distance, second shift? Fuhgeddaboudit!

Dude, there are so many people who tell me, "Oh God, I wouldn't want to live in Florida, you have hurricanes!" And yeah, that can be a pain in the ass. But unlike blizzards, you don't need to shovel it, and unlike earthquakes, at least it gives you a couple days notice. And I'd still rather have a long hot summer than a long cold winter!

I've grown up with the snow and while I'm not thrilled about it, I don't mind it all that much. I *hate* driving in it, though.

I couldn't live in Florida only because our humidity is bad enough up here, but yours? Good Lord, it's like trying to breathe through wet cotton!

Thankfully, our humidity seems to be abating for the season---a little earlier than usual, which I don't mind at all. The temp has lowered by a few crucial degrees, and I've taken the bold step of turning off the A/C in hopes of reducing my electric bill.

Somehow Depp hasn't tripped my OMGSEXXAY yet...and Chris Bale is teetering on the border.

But yeah, Benjamin Bratt in the Cleaner? YUMMAY!

Oh goody, so I'm NOT the only one I know who's hot for Bratt. And yeah, I'm loving The Cleaner. All the more so because they've been bringing in some great talent in the guest roles in addition to BB.

I wrote a TON of fanfic during my Depp phase---2004-05, more or less. Mostly Once Upon a Time in Mexico, some Pirates, and a mess of miscellaneous. (Pirates got me interested, Mexico got me hooked.) Not so much "OMG teh secks!" as "Oooh what a fun character, I want to play with him!" Before that, I had written him off as "that 80's pretty boy with the hair and the 'tude"---I had no idea he had so much talent!

The trailers look pretty tense. I just hope it gets picked up so we won't end up with an unresolved cliffhanger!
