Long day. Got up, cancelled doctor's appointment due to lack of copay. Kat came by---her cell isn't working, got dropped once too often---and we ran around for a few hours. To her oncologist, to reschedule an appointment she'd forgotten, to the local AT&T store (which happened to be in the same plaza as Barnes & Noble), lunch at Steak'n'Shake and to her bank. All of which are in a roughly two-mile radius.
In Barnes & Noble, I bit the bullet and did NOT indulge in any purchases...even though they had Life's Like That, which I WANT. No. Not this week. Maybe when I'm schnauzer-sitting and have a spot of discretionary income.
Kat has a working sewing machine (according to her, it's never been out of the box) that she's going to loan me, so I can get those old atomic curtains hemmed, the new striped ones stitched up and a few odds and ends mended. Isn't it a good thing that I cleared of the dining room table? *grin*
Worked on the WIP a bit more (2nd installment has gone to beta), and had Supper Club. It was StormValkyrie's birthday, and the C's bought me dinner since I'd critter-sat for them. I had the smothered steak (sauteed onions and 'shrooms under gorgonzola) medium-rare---OMG, that was good! I get Real Beef (as opposed to ground beef) every second or third blue moon, so this was a treat.
Talked to MrGypsy about possibly having the sliding glass doors rehab'ed, and he says his schedule is full for the next couple of weeks (and by then, I'll be dog-sitting), but hopefully soon after that.
One of the other gals who was there...her husband is an out-of-work remodeler-type---he and his crew installed a new bathroom for the C's---and I'm going to see if I can get him to take a look at the hole in the hall and give me an estimate to finish that. Wiring the plug for the fridge is the biggest thing; the rest is yanking out a four-foot strip of wall and putting up paneling and/or drywall on an "L" of studs and the ceiling. Aside from the plug and the ceiling, I could *probably* do it myself, although they would undoubtedly do a much quicker and tidier job of it.
GK is going to be in town over the weekend, sans offspring. Alas, I can only take my standard days off, but plans are afoot to cruise the new Goodwill on Monday and there is discussion of a mid-afternoon lunch and Star Trek Reboot on Sunday afternoon, possibly with J and
sbjb, if it can be arranged.
