Don't mind me, I'm just visiting....

I know it's only been about 48 hours, but I sure have missed you all.

A quick recap:

Saturday: Numerous people who should've been slapped for time-wasting indecisiveness. On the other hand, I sold a $1300* Posh Brits bag to a woman who said she had two others and they're SO much better quality than Prada, don't you know? I've never seen a Prada bag in the flesh (or leather, as the case may be) but PB *does* make an excellent product, and I complimented her on her fine taste and discernment---and got her credit card info. I hope my sales help get me out of the doghouse that my talk time has gotten me into....

Sunday: Slept quite soundly in my own happy bed in arctic comfort. Church, as usual. Sadly, we ran out of time, because our speaker had some fascinating things to say about dreams. Afterward, I zipped over to Kat's to make lunch plans and check my mail. Visited for a bit and got fish and chips on the way home.

Enjoyed my dinner with Season One of Leverage...that's what I spent most of the evening doing, lounging in the a/c and enjoying episodes I missed the first time. Having caught the American Life rebroadcasts of the old Mission: Impossible series, I realize that that's what Leverage reminds me of. The weekly caper! I always adored M:I, and this is a 21st centure update of the concept. No banana republic dictators overthrown yet, but bringing justice to the "untouchable" bad guys is still the same.

The contrasts are fascinating, though---Leverage has more of a sense of humor than M:I ever did. Phelps had no personal life that we ever saw, much less a past or, heaven forbid, vices. Hardison is as much a genius as Barney, but I can't imagine Barney staying up all night playing World of Warcraft or acting as a DJ. I'll grant Sophie has an equal amount of class as Cinnamon, but no way did Cinnamon tart it up as much as Sophie. And Parker...I like merrily crazy Parker ever so much more than Dana/Lesley Ann Warren. And while Peter Lupus was quite the hottie in that Playgirl centerfold, I'll take Elliot over Willy ANY day. *fans self*

Today: Met Kat for lunch, got her key and came over to catch up on things while she took care of some bidness. And here we are.

In squeeful news, the Fluevogs are scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday, and as I told [livejournal.com profile] sbjb, I'm off Wednesday, so that's perfect. I will camp out by the front door so I can swoop out to scribble my Joan Hancock and snatch my precious Fluevogs from the custody of those indifferent incompetants who have no clue how vital their cargo is.

More as access permits. Please comment, it makes me feel loved....

*waves hi!*

Hurrah! for selling that bag, and yah! for the shoes.

I've been online trying to find a good source for used textbooks, having just spent an entire paycheck on the boy's books for the fall semester. Jeeze, academic publishers have a racket going that the Mob would admire.

It's true. It's always been true. College textbooks are the biggest racket going. I've heard of students checking them out from the library for the semester to avoid buying them. Even the "workbooks" are obscenely expensive. Good luck with that!

I think I'd be way better off to buy an Amazon Prime subscription and shop on-line, just from the comparison shopping I did today. The school attempts to discourage this by not putting book titles or ISBNs on the course sign-up sheets and not putting the books out until two weeks before the semester starts.

Next semester, though, I'm assigning the boy to do some detective work and bring me those ISBNs. Books were not cheap when I was in college, but I about fainted when I saw an $85 price sticker on the same English handbook I used in 1981.

*commenting* ;)

And now, I totally want to give Leverage a try!

Also, wow, 1300 bucks for a bag...on sale? I don't care much for Prada bags, actually, or Coach. I found a teal blue bag with silver studs on it that I squeed out loud for the other day at Macy's that was like 100 bucks, that is about as far out there as I go, LOL!!! I didn't get it though, gotta pay Verizon before they shut me off. Urgh.

Leverage is a totally fun way to spend time on a Wednesday evening. I prefer to set my timer so I can watch Criminal Minds, then watch Leverage and fast-forward through the commercials.

The teal and silver bag sounds gorgeous, but I agree that continued communication trumps it. $100 for a GOOD bag is a decent price. Fossil is usually in that ballpark (and their watches are top quality, too.), and Wilson's Leather has nice bags to suit tastes from the flamboyant to the classic.

I have been trying to cancel my Fluevog order since I got laid off- I could do without spending $50 on shoes right now and they haven't charged my debit card yet...however, I can't get anyone to answer the phone!!!! Not a soul.
Oh, well. Guess it will be fun to get a surprise when they arrive.

$1300 for a PURSE?!? *shakes head* Clearly some people have more money than common sense, but at least her lack of said common sense benefited you.

;-)

[identity profile] vanillafluffy.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pretty much my thought. Good grief, the number of things you or I could do with that kind of money!

That's SALE priced????!!! *thud* Yumpin' yiminy. That's more than a month's RENT for us!

[identity profile] vanillafluffy.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I've only owned ONE car that cost more than that. It must be nice to have that much disposable income.

[identity profile] ang5fam.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I was able to cancel my Fluevog shoe order today with no fuss-- the guy was very nice. I explained that I had lost my job and that I needed the $ for stuff like electricity and food. Since I don't have an online benefactor like you do, it just wasn't practical. So, sadly my birthday gift to self had to be postponed for another year. I have a feeling this birthday is going to go by unnoticed unless employment finds it's way to me!

I'm still on tenderhooks---okay, not-so-tenderhooks!---waiting to find out what's happening with my job. Tomorrow, alledgedly, the powers that be will have a decision.

You're invited to my party, you know that, right? I'll try to make sure it's festive enough for both of us.

loved...

(sneaks in and makes sure that the law expert isn't looking)
Hi! You are loved and hugged! SHHHH!!! "I am not here. I am a figment of your imagination!!!"
Just wanted to say, I can't wait for the party!! I'm so excited! I get to put faces with names! YEA!!!! (insert quiet squeel here.)

(Sneaks out before said law expert notices that I'm here.)

Hey sweetie! You're bootlegging from your lawyer's office?! That's my girl!

Did B tell you I chatted with her before she put me through to you? I can never seem to tell you apart on the phone---even after all this time!
