This...is a little thing. Hopefully a temporary one. But meanwhile, I just accomplished something that makes me happy.
I have a mirror---actually, I have quite a few, but this particular mirror has been hanging beside my front door since January. It's kind of 70's Mediterranean, and I love it, but one thing really bugged me about it: It has an assymetric frame, with a wider border on one of the narrow sides, and the way the wire was oriented, the wider border was weighted at the bottom. Which meant if I wanted to use it as a mirror, I had to hang it a few inches lower than I would otherwise.
Last week at Goodwill, I picked up a great three-hook coat rack that goes very well with it, dark wood, bronze hooks, ivory ceramic accents. Hanging it below the mirror would've meant hanging it so low that anything hanging on it would be trailing on the floor.
Tonight I took the mirror down and really looked at it and decided to try to move the wire. (There are a series of screws going through the backing that holds the glass in place on the back. The screws go through the wire anchors.) I had my trepidations, but it took all of five minutes to do. So I rehung it about five inches higher and installed the rack below it.
Boom, the whole business took all of fifteen minutes, and it defines the entry space. (The front door opens right into the living room, very imaginative. *eyeroll*) Mind you, my long-term plan calls for a credenza with a different mirror over it slightly to the left of that area when I get the living room purged and reoriented. And at that point, I'll probably hang that rack closer to shoulder height.
For now, though, it looks nice. It makes me feel like I'm doing some decorating, even if I'm gonna switch it all around come Labor Day.
Go, me!
