Playing catch-up

Yesterday and today were both very long and somewhat sleep-deprived. I'm just not sleeping well. I wake up too early and can't go back to sleep, shoulders hurt, etc. Yesterday I was up before 8---at least two hours earlier than I needed to be---church as usual, then over to Kat's to hang with GK, who is going through her mom's papers, which are random in the extreme. They're Kat's stuff and G'ma's left behind stuff, jumbled in drawers and boxes and box-like objects like ottomans and ice chests, stuff like trinkets and greeting cards, old bills, magazines and books, tax records, check stubs, family photos, insurance paperwork---you get the idea.
We took a break and a quick trip to the MI Goodwill while Kat was napping. I found some nice sage green pants and a knit dress, she got a sweater...I was looking for loaf pans, since I have a recipe for pumpkin bread that I've been wanting to try. Back at the double-wide, I mentioned this to GK. "Holy cow!" she said. "Mom has a ton of stuff here. Most of it was Grandma's, and she's not going to be using it. Go see if there's anything you can use."
I ended up going through the kitchen, and I came home with a bunch of kitchenware, including loaf pans, muffin pans, a couple metal baking pans, a cookie sheet, cooling rack, big skillet with a glass lid and a flat-bottomed wok. Oh, and a George Foreman grill, which I've always wanted. I have my eye on four place-settings of Fiestaware, which GK says I can have as soon as I show her a cabinet with room for them.
This morning, after I hit the food pantry, I went directly over to Kat's. She had a visit from the hospice nurse; she's retaining fluid in her abdomen and is probably going into the hospital to get it drawn off within the next few days, maybe as soon as tomorrow. It isn't life-threatening in and of itself, but the pressure is making her uncomfortable. The nurse mentioned a shunt as a possibile palliative measure, but that probably won't happen for a while. Because she's weak and having trouble walking, we've gotten her a wheelchair and are looking into getting a handicapped tag for her car.
The neighbor came by to sit with Kat, while GK and I went to WalMart. She picked up the tab for some groceries for me---she was shopping for Kat anyway---and she complimented me on the healthy choices I'd made. Tons of veggies, for one thing! The microwave situation being what it is, full-scale cooking on a regular basis is about to commence.
She and I did the Chinese buffet on MI for lunch. (Hence the icon.) I avoided the teriyaki wings, though, as my ankles are puffed up like Clydesdales again and I figured the bacon-wrapped chicken was bad enough...come Wednesday, I'm going to head down to the health department and see if there's anything they can do for me, as my BP is still running high. So call this the last hurrah, at least for a while....
GK is going to Orlando with BC and Mrs BC to see Avatar in 3D this evening. They'd originally planned to see it tomorrow, but GK leaves at OMG!AM Wednesday, so practicality prevailed. Hopefully, we'll get in a thrift store or two tomorrow---she went through Kat's VHS tapes and has a metric shitload of them to donate---but her favorite thrift is closed Sunday and Monday (A+ on MI.), so it's her only chance this trip. The deciding factor is what Kat's doctor decides to do, and when.
I guess I need to go cook something....
