vanillafluffy: (My Tribal)

I contacted The Boss Lady this morning bright and early...only to find that she's headed out to a seminar for the next few days and will arrange the team conference call "later". Argh, this is why I don't post about job hunting, because this kind of thing always seems to happen. (Sorry guys. Keep the champagne on ice.)

However, RG'sMom is so sure of my prospects that she's loaned me money to get a landline and DSL connection. I just got in from paying my deposit for that. (Plus a $2 fee the payment outlet clipped me for. Don't even get me started about how pissed I am at having what little cash money I have chiseled away by fees I can't seem to avoid.) Mind you, they can't actually come out and hook me up until a week from tomorrow. Gah!

Came outside and was at once put into a better mood by the sight of a great old truck parked out front, a lowered Chevy, circa 1955, in "red" primer. Mmm!

Also? There's now a tattoo shop two doors down from the payment station. My tatts are 20 years old, and at that time, there were ZERO tattoo studios in this county. The nearest one was on this side of Orlando, and that was some 30 miles---there were only about three shops in all of O-town! Now there's one within walking distance? Oh, how times have changed!

I went in. Yes, I know---it's far from a necessity!---but asking is free. Nobody was getting work done; there were three stations, no waiting. I glanced through a couple binders of photos, all good, and some were truly excellent.

As depicted in my icon, I have a lizard and a dragonfly on my right calf. For a long time, I've wanted to get a seahorse on my left calf for balance. I described what I wanted, and got a quote of $80, which is actually quite a bit less than my lizard and tribal went for back in the day. Granted, that was done by a "name" artist in NYC. The dragonfly was a locally acquired barter deal, done in the artist's laundry room. (He's since opened a studio---GK got a cover-up done there ages ago---but that's clear down in Palm Bay.) I certainly wouldn't select an artist by price alone, but it gives me a point of comparison.

As you can see, I'm into tribal. I'd say "old school" tribal, but in those days, it was cutting edge. Yes, I was a trend-setter. I've had time to think about what I'd like to do if money was no object, but since these days I look like a shar-pei when I take my clothes off, I'd rather not do anything really big...unless I lost a bunch more weight and got everything tucked. In which case, GAME ON.

Anyway, tribal used to be basic black, period. I love the look of it, silhouette-style, very clean and simple. What I want to do for the seahorse is have it deep indigo blue, no black at all, but still with the emphasis on shape, not shading. As background, where the earlier work has stylized "grass" and "clouds", I want to have little ripples of green "seaweed". And at some (even more distant) point, I want a little sea-turtle and a suggestion of waves above that, just below my knee. 21st century tribal, dig it?

Once opon a time, my plan was land on one leg and sea on the other. I had a really fabulous piece planned for my right thigh, and some ideas for my left, but having lost much of the elasticity in my skin, I think I've missed my optimum window. After losing 100+ pounds, my thighs are squishy. My calves, on the other hand, are still firm. Hopefully while they remain so, I'll get my seahorse....

Since you're not a smoker (which wrecks skin collagen), your calves may well stay nice and firm all your life. And doesn't it sound amazing to be able to write that you've lost 100-plus pounds! *cheers*

Still keeping fingers crossed for you, hon. *hugs*

Yes, I'm down 100+ from my all-time high, and that *is* awesome. OTOH, I've gained five pounds this month...bleh. I'm having one of those days today...ever wake up feeling brittle, like you'd crumble into a little heap of shards at the first loud noise? It's like being hungover, only cold-sober.

Right now, I'm on the cusp of triumph and disaster. It seems like I'm on the verge of getting the job, and having some income so I can have some quality of life again...but everything is dragging on and I'm stressed about how I'm going to make my bills this month because it'll be a few weeks til I see any money...phone and net aren't going to help if I don't have juice to power my computer! To say nothing of my other obligations. I'm trying to take it one day at a time, but that really isn't my nature.

The icon pretty much says it all---and that's another thing, my damn bank charges me a service fee if I don't maintain a certain balance OR use my debit card X-number of times a month. Well, the min balance is a joke, I don't have a fraction of it, and while the debit card transactions wouldn't be a problem if I had any cash flow to speak of, I don't, so the other day they clipped me for my last $10. That was earmarked to renew one icon package for my LJ account. (It used to be two, but I thinned out the herd.) I really wish LJ, when they add time to compensate for their scr3ew-ups, would add it to the icon packs so everything expires at the same time. Anyway, I just got their email warning me about impending icon expiration, just to put the cherry on the turd of my day.

(No, I'm not hinting. I just had to vent. I swear, if pressure creates diamonds, pretty soon, I'm going to make the Hope look like a gum machine bauble.)

*hugs* I do know that feeling and it sucks.

I did not gain any weight over Christmas, but didn't lose any either, which ought have happened considering how crazy my schedule was. Apparently running in circles pulling my hair out does not qualify as exercise. :D

Your bank needs a kick in the keister for pulling that crap. Is there a credit union you would qualify for? They usually treat their customers a lot better.

Look for a card from me later this week, 'kay? *MOAR HUGS*

There are some CUs, but all the ones I know of are even more inconveniently located than my current bank. But like I said, 10 debit card transactions per month is no big deal *when* I have cash flow. You've heard the expression, "The suspense is killing me"? That's what it feels like!

*hugs back* You are the awesomest of the awesome.
