Words can't do justice to how much I adore this bed. Not that it would FIT in my current bedroom (and if it did, it would be like a pig wearing pearls), but WOW!---it sure inspires some interesting fantasies! I'd go for a paisley wallpaper, rather than the stripes, and throw in some brass/gold accents, really go for the whole Byzantine vibe....

And this! I want to top it with this, and some big silk pillows! Although I'd like it better if it had a darker background, like midnite blue or burgundy--I'm not loving the pink---pink-mauve is definitely *not* in synch with the Byzantine thing!.

What a great idea for a necktie quilt! I've heard about people making stuff out of old ties, but could not imagine what it would look like. And you are right: it needs something besides the pink.

Makes me want to cruise "dollar-a-bag" days at thift stores for a boatload of old ties. I have three or four that were my dad's, but clearly, that takes about fifty or so. Maybe I should hold a used tie drive...?

And thinking about it, somewhere I have an ivory jacquard spread that would make a good, neutral backdrop...maybe with a strip-pieced border of more ties, so it doesn't ;ool ;ole it's floating in the middle of nowhere. Clearly, the middle is something else---not ties, it looks kinda striped? Jmm, remains to be seen.

That is my kind of bed -- lots of places to get a good grip. ;) I think the Byzantine theme would be scrumptious. (Although I'd probably go with Ralph Lauren's "Out of Africa" inspired line (c.1985).

Yep, and zebra. I'm not sure the line is even in production now, but it's still my ideal.

The focus is on natural materials in neutral colors, exotic woods, leather, and faux ivory and animal skins, with a liberal dose of frothy laces, silk 'mosiquito' netting, exquisite crystal, and lots of silver and brass.

The overall look is that of an Edwarian aristocrat's safari camp mixed with the casual elegance of Shabby Chic.

Omg, that bed... *stares*

...love, Love, LOVE that bed!

Mine is a canopy but it's solid oak and not nearly as ornate. WOW.

My current bed is a platform, which I loathe. I need help to move it, so it's been sitting in the same spot for years. I've never had a canopy bed or even a four poster. Had an old sort-of sleigh bed for a few years, but killed it with my weight.

Did I mention Jupe has constructed a four-poster bed with recycled telephone poles? It has lengths of recycled pipes connecting the poles at the top, and it's draped with a huge piece of camoflague netting. The effect of the tree-trucklike posts and the camo canopy has Spence commenting that it's like camping. To which Jupe counters that Spence has never been camping in his life. (It's true.) "if it's like this," says Spence, "it wouldn't be so bad."

I love the telephone pole idea - they can get as 'rambunctious' as they want and that sucker will still be standing. Haha.

Also, forgot to give props for the Bloom County reference. Man, I miss that comic!!

Yeah, Jupe took that into account. Plus, there's how cheaply made and rickety so many commercial beds are, and his love for repurposing materials.
