Still....

Still no paycheck. Still no appliances, altho' the latter doesn't bother me nearly as much. JasontheYardGuy is doing me (and Mb) a favor---the company is just being douchey. I'm willing to bet that they cut the check, ran it through their postage meter to reflect an appropriate date and have sat on it for a week. Fuckers.

Breathe...meanwhile, I have an atomic headache from stress, excavating, and lack of caffeine. Boxes are heaped on top of other boxes, which are piled atop tables, chairs and yet more boxes. Things are shoved under and behind and atop---wherever there's a crevasse of space. But! The front door opens wide, there's a path back to the dining room and turn left into the kitchen. Which is also considerably less cluttered than usual.

I may do some rearranging and shift the big microwave to the dining room end of the kitchen counter---but not until I've seen the size of the new fridge. Mb says it has the freezer in top, so it's bound to be narrower than the side-by-side; I may leave the microwave where it is, I'm used to it.

Am trying not to think too hard about insurance. If my homeowners policy lapses, I'm FUCKED. this is Florida, hurricane season is coming---what am I supposed to do if the house gets totaled, pitch a tent in the backyard?! Move in with Mb and the cats?

HUGE fucking headache....

I wasn't hinting, really I wasn't---but thank you. Much as I hope the check will be there, I don't have a whole lot of faith, if you know what I mean.

I know. It just worries me that they don't pay on a set schedule. It makes a hard to get a toehold when you never know what's coming.

But YAY! on great progress in clearing a path! *extra big hugs*

Thanks for cheerleading. It's all stuff that I should be doing anyway, but sppliances are more of a motivator for me than "Because!". In some ways, the place is even more of a mess, since I'm trying to Get It Out if the Way, not deal with it long-term, but at least I'm doing something, right?!

Hey, it counts. You'll be cleaning up from clearing the path after the appliances arrive. Any word on their ETA?

Look for a mailer from me, possibly as early as Saturday if the postal service has its act together. :)

Supposedly this afternoon. I'm ready! Even got all the baking pans off the top of the gridge single-handedly. Maybe that's what I'll do with the rest of that Home Depot GC (that turned back up a few weeks ago)---get sliding racks for my under-counter cabinets---they're so inconvenient, I cram stuff in there and ignore it. I really need to weed out the stuff I don't often use and maybe store it in the garage instead. (Things like roasting pans and big stock pots and bundt pans....)

That's a good idea. There's no sense in giving up prime kitchen storage space to something you use once a year.

This house has a small pantry with shelves that go up to the ceiling, and that's where I got the guys to put the things I don't use very often.

I'd sell my grandmother for a pantry! And counter space. If I had the wherewithal to build a house with my dream kitchen, tho, it would have LOTS of open shelves and peg boards---I'm not good at putting things away because I prefer to have them where I can see/grab them as needed.

My previous "pantries" had been shelves in the laundry room for canned goods. Couldn't put any dishes in them because of having open shelves and the cats.

I wonder what it was about society in the early 1960s that kitchens were so small? It's not like there were a lot of convenience foods and people didn't eat three meals a day out. We looked at so many houses of that vintage and up into the early 1970s that had miniscule kitchens. One of them was absolutely ridiculous: just enough space in a tiny square room for the cooktop, wall oven, dishwasher, fridge and sink. It seriously had about two feet of counter space, and I could stick my arms out and reach across it in both directions.

Idk...the C's house is of similar vintage, and even before they remodeled, I was in awe of their eat-in kitchen. Depends on the builder, I guess.
