I found out that the Dropkick Murphys/Flogging Molly show is going to be in Denver, and I was over the moon...for a few hours. Then GK decided to post on Fb no less, that it was all to expensive to consider, that she doesn't really like the 'Murphys that much, yadda yadda yadda. It was a slap in the face, as far as I'm concerned. She didn't even discuss it, just said NO and started crunching numbers about gas and hotels and so on--she should have factored that from the get-go and not gotten my hopes up.

It's been two days. I have cooled down enough that I didn't even mention it yesterday when we were running around getting my new phone activated. (Secondhand from SS, because my old one wasn't being supposed worth a damn.) This does not mean that I am not still mad as hell, merely that I'm being civilized and biding my time.

Meanwhile, I'm looking into the dollars and cents and logistics of it. The ticket is $53. Okay, little does she know it, but I have a $50 bill that I've been hanging into since February of last year. So, that and robbing my piggy bank(change in a repurposed mayonnaise jar), I've got that covered. Greyhound bus from here to there is about $30, leaves at 2:30 a.m., gets there around 11, giving me time to find food and get to the venue, probably via Lyft or Uber, and park myself there.

Doing all this with my walker is going to be...strenuous...but I know better than to attempt this without it. Unless the venue is an arena, something with actual seating, there's just no way. I can NOT stand for hours at a stretch. (Especially if I'm only a month out of surgery, at a guess. Although I might actually schedule it around the concert. A week or so afterward wouldn't make a real difference in the long run.) When I saw the 'Murphys here in town, it was at a theater with zero seating, so my walker was a godsend. As long as I park clear of the mosh pit, I'm good.

Bus fare...if I can save $20 a month between now and then, it'll cover that both ways. I can always pack snacks, so food doesn't have to be a major expense. Lyft/Uber is connected to my debit card--but by the time those charges show up, it'll be a done deal.

Hey, it's my money. I'll be the first to admit, I'm not the most fiscally responsible person around, that's why I need a keeper--but when I agreed to make her my payee, I had no idea how uptight and anal GK was going to be about spending it. I mean, I understand that she's got a reserve, because there's a clause that says if I die, the entire last month's payment (even if I die at the end of the month) has to be repaid. It makes sense, and there's a modest four-figure savings beyond that, for emergencies--home repairs, etc. AND she's taking a chunk each month for savings, which is galling.

She's set up automatic billing, so I never have to make a payment, and after decades of being behind, and knowing to the n-th degree how late my account was by which envelope the bill came in...it feels downright strange to be current on everything all the time. Maybe even a little wrong, because plenty of times when I was current I "borrowed" from that, because I knew how long I'd have before they'd issue a bill with a balance for two months. If I even suggested that to GK, she would shit little pink kittens. That's why she's a good overseer--but she doesn't seem to realize a) how important this is to me or b) how betrayed I feel about her blithe abandonment of the idea of going or c) how good I'm being, from my point of view, about everything.

Of course, these days, I'm on a fixed income, which I have come to understand is "fixed" the same way games at a casino are "fixed"--the house always wins. So I'm treating this like a heist--a caper, Olsen's 11 (minus about 10 people to help!). Quietly plot my escape, say nothing, and just GO.

That's life on this wonderful Wednesday. Love to all.

She really should not have dangled that treat without checking the bookkeeping first. :(

Good luck with the escapade, but please don't over-extend yourself if you have the surgery only a month before. You don't want to get there and be too stove-up to get back.
