Nothing exceeds like excess

Let's see...went and saw "The House With a Clock in the Walls" at the cheap seats ($2.50). I liked it better than I expected--I'm not a big fan of Jack Black, but this was a fun blend of 1950's Americana meets Harry Potter.
Then I spent the night at GK's so we could visit the estate sale early...got a stack of "new" clothes out of it. (She was cleaning her closet.). I also made a commitment. I ordered a pair of cosplay boots online (with a little help from GK). I've spent the last few years wanting to cosplay the Winter Soldier, and next Bubonicon, I'm going to do it. I've already stopped cutting my hair. Now all I have to do is put together some armor.
The estate sale was...interesting. The house was gargantuan--SIX THOUSAND SQUARE FEET--meaning you could fit my place in there times six. And OMG, why is it that so many people who are loaded with money have no fucking taste?! I mean, seriously, I'm far from a minimalist, but this manse was way over the top. The woman who owned it had a successful flower shop (or so I overheard), and she had florid tastes to match. If it was carved or smothered in gilt, she loved it. I never saw so much ormolu and gold leaf in one place in my life. (Well, maybe the St. George theater, back on Staten Island, but that place dates back to 1929.) I'd had my eye on a few things among the pics the estate sale people posted, but the prices were as excessive as everything else. I got a few smalls--a set of collapsible silicon measuring spoons, some boxes of tea, a bag of office supplies--but I was underwhelmed by most of it.
Friday evening was the ASFS Christmas party. That's the first meeting I've been to since last spring, and it was great to see everyone. I've acquired a partner in crime (henceforth to be referred to as PiC). She's also into cosplay, and she wanted to know what I thought of her cosplaying the Winter Soldier. I said if she did, there would be two of us, and mentioned the boots. And then she came up with the genius idea of her cosplaying Rocket, which is freaking perfect. (PiC is quite a bit shorter than I am; this can work.) So as long as she doesn't chicken out, we're going to have fun at next year's B-Con.
Saturday was the "Aquaman" sneak peek--we got tickets through GK's Amazon Prime account. Eye candy from start to finish--not just J Mo--the movie, too. Just make sure you pee before going in, because it's long, and there's a lot of water involved. And that's all I'm gonna say.
When she came to pick me up, GK dropped off a wing-back chair she'd found, "Free to good home". It's a southwestern tapestry-style print, doesn't egregiously clash with the decor, and will give her a place to sit when she drops by. Because face it, she's the only one who ever does.
Posted a major chapter to "The Man With the Silver Arm"--enter Steve Rogers! I'm breathing a sigh of relief, because at this point, I can probably wrap it in three more chapters. This time of year being what it is, I've decided to hold off on trying to get it up before the New Year. As it is, it's been the sound of crickets chirping since this one went up. (Okay then. Be like that.*) Meanwhile, it isn't like I don't have a crapton of other projects already in the works.
Anyway, that's been my week. Love to all.
* Because the gorram thing is at 30K words, which is a record for me, and it'd be nice to get some fucking appreciation for sticking to it, if nothing else.
