Yesterday GK and I did not get my holiday decor out of my shed. Instead, we took a walk to the park mailboxes, which I've been rather lackadaisical about. Usually I get her to swing by when we're coming our going to forego the hike. (To me, it's a hike. After forty years in a house where the mailbox was 30-40 feet from my front door, having to walk a block to get what's usually just junk mail doesn't appeal.)

Anyway, we went. She wasn't setting a speedy pace, although I was required to carry on a conversation. Quelle surprise, it wasn't as arduous as it was the last time I tried it. I made it there and back without needing to rest! Believe me, that's a milestone--same with taking a shower and washing my hair without availing myself of the shower chair. Even though the actual numbers on the scale aren't exactly plummeting, I feel a lot better.

Afterward, we sat and schmoozed for a bit, she in the "new" chair and me in the other...it was pleasant.  Of course, she inevitably looked at the clock, shrieked and tore out of here like her ass was on fire, but what else is new?

This morning, I was going through the pix on my tablet...I went back about six months, and in the process, came across the ones I took after my fall, with the goose egg and gash on my forehead and that shiner. Talk about grim! I looked absolutely zombified, and I remember how wretched I felt. Between being dizzy if I stood up still for more than a few seconds, having no energy at all, and barely being able to go through the motions, it's no wonder I thought I might drop dead before I made it through surgery. It really was that bad! At this point. I'm feeling decent, mentally and physically. Still a long way to go, but the sense of impending doom has passed.

It's going to be a pleasant Christmas. I have a Yule gift from a friend at ASFS to open Friday evening, and yesterday, GK dropped off a bunch of stuff for me, including a new secondhand sewing machine (not wrapped) and a domed cake stand, which she encouraged me to unwrap, saying she was worried it might get jostled and broken if I waited til next week. There's also an IKEA bag full of wrapped packages...I haven't yet reached the stage of hefting, squeezing and shaking them--yes, I'm one of those--which  ought to make the morning of the 25th interesting.

Before that, though, I'm looking forward to Friday. Venom is going to be at the cheap seats, and while everyone else is rushing to see "Aquaman" (I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but I can wait) or engaging in retail skirmishing, I'm going to go see whether Venom's going to be my next obsession, or what. What I've gathered from You Tube and Pintrest make it sound like fun.

Speaking of Pintrest...SBJB, do you recall while I was staying with you we tried to find a Gothic novel I'd read a million years ago? I couldn't remember the title or the author's name, but I was clear as clear about the names of the protagonist and whodunit and why. Some weeks ago, I started getting Gothic novels popping up in my Pintrest feed, and I kept chasing them down the rabbit hole, certain I'd know it if I saw it. Ran across an author's name that seemed familiar (Naomi Hintze) and looked her up. Clicked on one of the books in her bibliography and there it was! "Listen, Please Listen". The names and plot details match, so there you have it. Of course, it's out of print, but I'll keep an eye peeled while I'm out and about. At least now I have a starting point!

My Pintrest feed is a very eclectic thing. In addition to Sebastian Stan, the MCU, food and fashion, I intermittently get things like cameos, vintage perfume bottles (Lalique, not Avon), assorted dog breeds, horses, quilts, mosaics and coloring pages. Spent an hour the other evening looking at saddles--would you believe leopard print?!--and I've also just discovered that the name of the style of my bureau, which I've always referred to as 70's ersatz Mediterranean is properly called Hollywood Regency. La-di-da!

Is it just me, or is something going on with LJ? I haven't been able to get on since Saturday, and I've tried with my computer, my phone and my tablet, and it keeps timing out. WTF, LJ?!

Glad tidings to all!

Merry Christmas! There is a card on the way to you. Nothing fancy because Advent is kicking my butt at work, but I think you will enjoy it.
