Change of plans...and of clothes

Yesterday, I ended up NOT going to the movies as planned, and that's okay. GK has a coworker who lost a great deal of weight. She hung on to all her old clothes until she had to move...GK helped her with packing them up and she was finally ready to sort through them--the coworker, I mean.
When I say "finally" I mean, this all started to be A Thing in August. That's when the packing up took place. At the last minute, the place that Coworker was supposed to move to tried to pull a fast one, changing the conditions of the lease and hiking up the rent...so that fell through. And between one thing and another--her schedule, GK's schedule and so on, neither of them had time to go through all the stuff until this week (because Mr. GK is conveniently out of town at a conference).
And when I say clothes, I'm not talking a laundry basket full--no, Coworker had at least as many clothes as I did in Florida. There were fifty-something 30-gallon trash bags full in a range of sizes from 16-18 up to 30+.
So I went over there yesterday and looked through what's been done so far. GK's couch was literally covered in clothes from the sorting they did Tuesday night. I got three bags worth. Then Coworker came over after work and we sorted still more...Two more bags...and there are about a dozen bags left in GK's garage, Big variety...mostly tops, a few pants and skirts and a dress or two....nice stuff. There are a few pieces I can hardly wait to wear, although a lot of it needs to be tumbled with a wet towel to get the wrinkles out. I was heartbroken, though, to discover that several gorgeous sweaters were miles too big--they would have fit me at 400 pounds--but I'm clinging to the thought that the final bags may yield treasure of equal merit.
My plans for today are to go through my entire wardrobe and pitch all the stuff I'm sick and tired of, which is a great deal of it. Coworker's fashion aesthetic is a lot closer to mine than GK's is...for instance, I now have quite a bit of solid green in various shades, whereas GK wouldn't touch green with the proverbial ten-foot pole. Likewise, Coworker has quite a few button-up shirts, and GK shies away from them in favor of wrap-type tops and dresses. I left the pastels behind--I've never been a fan of baby blue!--and unfortunately there were fewer pants than I would've liked, but they were free and free is good.
Also managed to get to the store while GK was at work...splurged on some fresh deli pastrami and rye bread, and took pity on a sad potted calla lily.. Very droopy and a lot of yellow leaves. I have a croton that I've kept alive for a full year, and thus encouraged, I'd like to expand my cultivating. Lilies are fairly easy--I had a healthy, happy Peace lily for quite a while...until HWSNBN carelessly took it out into the backyard and left it in full sunlight for a couple days, which ended it.
I Brought it in last night and watered it thoroughly with warm water. Left it overnight, and this morning it was decidedly perkier. I trimmed off the yellow bits and took stock...it has two lilies blooming and another one incipient. I think it's going to pull through. Now, I just need to figure out where it's going to live. Fortunately, FLH is coming back on Saturday. I figure we can rearrange a few things...I think I can put them both in front of the south kitchen window.
Worst case scenario, I'll get both movies from Red Box. I won't have the theater experience, but at the same time, I can enjoy my own snacks, pause it when I need to pee and watch it more than once if I'm so inclined.
Off to purge! Love to all!

Date: 2019-12-11 11:30 pm (UTC)I spent a good chunk of the day sewing. The two little children in my life are getting stuffed toys for Christmas because I am broke yet have an awesome stash of fabric. :D

Date: 2019-12-12 01:51 am (UTC)I wanted to get into crafting for Christmas, but it's not happening this year. Still too much clutter. I'm tinkering with my Swedish weaving, but so far I'm just experimenting. Still, it's nice to be doing something with my hands besides faffing about on my tablet.
