I just got through doing something that I've been putting off for years. (No exaggeration. Literally, it's been about three years.) It involved crouching over and spending a half-hour poking around with a bent clothes hanger. And dusting.

To backtrack: when I got the DVD/sound system for Christmas a while back, He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named got into a snit about something when it came time to set it up and made *me* do it. At the time, I was forty pounds heavier and in NO SHAPE to crawl around wrestling with components and wires. It ended up with all the wires running down the front of the unit and snaking around behind the DVD player. Very irritating and unsightly and it's annoyed me all this time. But as we all know, Sloth really is my favorite deadly sin.

Then, while I was systematically tidying the entertainment unit this afternoon, something reached critical mass, and I couldn't stand it another minute. I managed to coax the unit out far enough from the wall to be able to dangle wires over the hooked hanger I coaxed out the back panel. I hauled all six of them through one at a time and figured out which was right and left (Front and back were color-coded. Easy enough.).

Only one minor difficulty: when I turned it on, I got the sound from the dvd through the TV, but that was all. Oops, the VCR leads were reversed. (That took about two minutes to diagnose and fix.)

So now, I can enjoy my media without the lingering sense of "Why did I put up with that bozo's shit?" (Although to be honest, he *did* buy DVD player for me to begin with. But that was typical of him--he could be generous and thoughtful one minute, and a total prick the next. Okay, *deep breath* I'm not going to go there, don't get me started...). Anyway, I feel a sense of accomplishment: it may have taken a bit of crawling around on the floor, but I did it!

Go, me!
