Inspiration
Mar. 20th, 2006 09:10 pmOn the way home from S's yesterday, I saw a sign that's been on my mind. It said, "A bad memory is sometimes mistaken for a clear conscience." Now there's an interesting truth! And I think it probably applies to most of us at one time or another. I know I've been known to conveniently "forget" things...and I can think of assorted individuals who've done the same. Or substitute a selective memory for a bad one--it's amazing how well we can remember what supports our preferred point of view, whether it's on purpose or unconsciously.
On that subject, Something coalesced this morning. I was driving to work (Why does it always happen on the way to work?!) and letting one of the plots on the List churn around in my second mind.* I was thinking about certain events that underlie the plot--that connected with another idea, one that wasn't even on the List--just a concept, not a whole story--and fusion occured. Suddenly, the whole thing hit critical mass and ideas exploded. This is going to be quite a jigsaw puzzle!

* Second mind: a concept I was introduced to in "The Valkyries" by Paulo Coelho. It's that subterranean consciousness that gets stuck on a song, or introduces nagging worries or distractions while you're trying to focus on something else. (Mine loves to cough up Plot Bunnies when I'm on my way to work. It does this with diabolical regularity.)
