The (new) modem has landed, hooray, hooray! The service technician who came out *insisted* on checking my old modem (that after I'd removed it from its original location and wrapped it up and handed it to him when he walked in the door). Okay, he was pleasant about it, and it only took a couple minutes for him to get it through his head that I was right:
It's not only merely dead, it's really most sincerely dead!
So, after the obligatory techno-wank, he gave me a shiny new modem, and I didn'tget a chance to bitch anybody out this morning have to call them and be unpleasant. Now, life can resume its normal course; that's one less thing to angst about, and all is well.
I think I've developed a new definition as to quality of life...if your major problems can be solved by an application of money, your life is pretty good...even if you don't have the money. Because money won't buy health, or good friends, or a lot of important intagible things like that. The line about, "Whoever says money can't buy happiness doesn't know where to shop"---is NOT true. Right now, I've got spare change and a little breathing room on my bills, but I'm a lot more at peace than I was when my job was eating my brain and I was torturing myself for that paycheck. Mind you, money is damned useful, and I need to find a way to start accruing some PDQ, but this summer has been very educational as to how many friends I have (and who they are), and how much I can do without...but not e-mail!
