A little while ago, I got an e-mail from GK, who is Up To Something. She said (in part):
I need some body measurements from you (inches):
1. waist to floor 37.5"
2. inseam 32"
3. riser (front waist, down front, thru crotch, up back to waist) 40"
4. waist (around) 54.5" (you didn't ask for hip, but just in case, plus 12")
Not giving away what exactly it is... Choose a color: batik? if so, what two predominant colors? Solid? if so, what color? Back me up here,
sbjb---does that sound like it could be a Chameleon to you?
For those of you-all who didn't spend the late 80s/early 90s wandering around the (Tampa) Bay Area Renaissance Festival, Chameleons were an interesting species of garb. Basically, it was a big cotton hexagon, with a fabric tube coming up from the center. There were drawstrings at the top and bottom of the tube, and more around the edges of the hexagon, and depending on how you orientated it and which drawstrings you pulled, you could wear it as a shirt, or pants or a dress or a cloak. It was very cool. I had one---pale pink---for that matter, I probably STILL have it
somewhere, but that was during my "thin phase" and even if I knew where it was, I wouldn't have a hope of getting into it.
I haven't been to a Ren Fest since '01 or '02 (I was with H.W.S.N.B.N. at the time), or even an SCA event in a few years, but it would be cool to have another Chameleon just to play with. Maybe I'm leaping to conclusions, but GK was even more heavily into the Ren-scene than I was in those days, and I'm pretty sure she'd know what a Chameleon was. This is the same GK who sewed my lovely cloak, who sells kids' Jedi robes as a sideline---she'd be resourceful enough to draft the pattern, even if she didn't have one for reference.
She mentioned my birthday---September!---so I don't have TOO long to wait to find out....
