vanillafluffy: (Roadtrip)
Saturday as I was wandering around my bedroom, I was grumbling about my curtains. Tab top blue and white country gingham---gah! I acquired them by way of H.W.S.N.B.N. five or six years ago, they didn't really go with anything, and I was quite sick of them.

I say "was" because I popped into Goodwill Saturday afternoon on the way to work and found a pair of curtains ($3.99!) that's fun. They're a tropical print---I'd call it bark-cloth inspired---with pink and white hibiscus and orchids on a background of blue and green palm fronds. I hung them this evening while watching a program about Disney live-action movies. They're so much cheerier than that godawful gingham!

Mind you, it would be nicer still if I could manage to get my room painted---I've only been trying to get that done for the last 15 years---I'm planning a soft aqua---but still, it's an improvement!

At least I can point to one accomplishment this week.

Hooray, hooray! The mail is here, bringing goodies. SPN season 2, for starters. The case is a wee bit chewed up, but hopefully, that won't extend to the contents. There was also a delightful card from the frozen white north, IE, [livejournal.com profile] jdsgirlbev in Canada to crack me up, promising a future surprise. (?!?!) I especially love the stamps---those dragonflies are gorgeous! From [livejournal.com profile] kukkurkurat, comes a package all the way from Tallinn, Estonia. Groping it, no hard edges reveal themselves, yet it doesn't seem to be bendy. I'm tantalized---what do we have here?! I feel very well-loved, which is reassuring at this time of year.

Saturday evening, I was on a call, and remarked that I thought things had been a zoo since Thanksgiving. "Me, too," my caller replied. "Oh, are you in retail, too?" I asked, ready to trade war stories. "No," she said, "I work for a crisis line---domestic violence." That broke my heart a little---nothing I've encountered in my adventures in e-commerce can possibly compare to the stuff that woman has to deal with. And I hurt, too, for all those people affected by it, especially during the season that's supposed to be about loving families and Peace on Earth. If Earth seems like a tall order, peace at home would be a good start.

Woke up with the new curtains and am quite satisfied. They are less opaque than the old ones, and look very pretty with the sun behind them. They may fade out within the year, but what can you expect for $4?

I caught the last few minutes of a Dharma and Greg rerun this morning, and it came as a shock. I've been watching Thomas Gibson in Criminal Minds for the last few seasons, and he looked so much younger in D&G. It also made me realize how seldom we see Hotch smile, much less laugh. Wow.

SPN S2 seems to work fine---at least, Houses of the Holy is okay. I'll check more a bit at a time.

Had a brief spurt of organization and collected all the snail mail addresses I have for my f'list into one doc. (It's easier to find than a bunch of random envelopes scattered across my desktop.) And for good measure, I emailed it to myself.

This evening for dinner, I'm thinking of a can of chili over some noodles with a dollop of sour cream and a handful of grated cheddar. Life is good.

**********

Update, 5:30 -- Born Under a Bad Sign is good, too. I looked at the customs notation on the Estonian parcel, and it says "sewing kit". Okay....

And the earworm? I like Irish music, but DAMN, right now I'd kill to hear the Dropkick Murphys version of this one. (To the best of my knowledge, there IS no DM version of this---if I'm wrong, I beg of you to hook me up!)
