Cheerful thoughts, if you're me
Apr. 20th, 2012 06:10 pmHere it is, 6PM and I don't have to take any pills! I finished the last of my antibiotics this morning, and promptly canceled all the alerts I've had on my phone. SO glad that's all done!
Was watching an interesting show about post-pandemic life this afternoon. It struck close to home that after living through the outbreak and relocating from Los Angeles to pastoral Colorado after months of migration and dangerous conditions---near-starvation, exposure, thieves and so on, what killed the protagonist was blood poisoning from a cut he got farming. No antibiotics in the post-apocalyptic world....
As the narrator said, the ecosystem would refresh itself after the burden of human population was taken off it, but without the level of technology we're used to, life expectancy would probably drop to was it was in the late 19th century, which was the last time we had a comparable standard of living.
Note to self, get a tetnus booster shot before the next catastrophe....
