Happily, the discomfort in my tailbone has mostly receded, to where I'm no longer popping ibuprofen all day long. It bothers me if I don't sit down carefully, or sometimes when I change positions, but it's more of an ache than outright pain, for which I'm thankful.
After spending last week at Phoenix ComicCon, GK came back with two things for me--an emerald green top, like new, very pretty (although it's 3/4 sleeves and large on me now, so the odds are I won't wear it more than once or twice before it's forever too big and I don't have anything it'll go with except solid black skirts, ho hum) but she also brought DRUMROLL PLEASE--! a signed photo of the lovely Neal McDonough as Robert Quarles from Justified (which is where I first noticed him, and which is, ironically, what got me into the MCU to begin with).
It's a gorgeous likeness, and she's put it in an equally handsome silver-toned frame...I've elected to display it in my bedroom, rather than my somewhat over-crowded office, so he's in the company of my signed Shirley McLaine photo, rather than with my autographs from Adam Baldwin, Danny Trejo and Ron Perlman (plus assorted MCU artwork).
Progress on The Secret of the Weird White Wedding is meandering--I *do* know where it's going--it's just one of those things that's probably going to run about 15 pages. People ask me why I don't write books--that's why. The idea of cranking out several hundred pages worth of story is appalling; fan-fic may be the PBN of writing, but I have less of a problem with that as time goes by.
I made it to Trader Joe's the other day and spent a ridiculous amount of money on cheese and a few other delicacies--I was driven by the thought that this was probably going to be my last trip to TJ's before surgery.
Next week, I see my bariatric counselor, and cross your fingers, my A1C will show sufficient progress that we can set a date. But! (There's always a 'but'.) I see her on Tuesday, which is when she'll give me the paperwork to take to the lab--guess I know what I'm going to be doing on Wednesday!--which means if I'm lucky she'll have the results by the end of the week, at which point we can talk scheduling. Clear? Good, because I also have to factor in the fact that GK is basically not going to be available in August at all.
GK has to deal with Number Two Son going off to college in California (Number One Son is the less socialized one--he's staying home and going to a local school one or two classes at a time), and a destination wedding (family on the East Coast), plus Bubonicon here at the end of the month.
This means she's not going to be available to help if any phase of my recovery occurs during August. Best case scenario is, IF I get clearance and schedule something by the end of this week, the soonest date for surgery would be mid-July, which is cutting it rather close. I suppose it *could* be scheduled for September, though I'm loathe to--I know I'm a goose to want to avoid my birthday in the tangle of rules and such, but there's three weeks before and after surgery of a strict liquid regime. And basically, if I started that AFTER my Bday, the surgery would be the beginning of October, which is just absurd, considering how hard I've been fighting to GET 'ER DONE.
Of course, that's all predicated on me getting clearance next week--if my A1C isn't doing what they want it to, it's a moot point. I'd have to wait another 4-6 weeks, meaning surgery around Labor Day. *sigh* I'll just have to think good thoughts about this year being the beginning of a whole new life. Yeah, that's it....
Oddly enough, a friend of mine from my medical billing days has just had the procedure done this week. No complications, all is going well...of course, SHE has a fabulous husband to help her through recovery. Not that I actually want a husband at this point--I'm too set in my ways--but an attentive Jeeves would be divine. Although at least I have a mini-fridge beside my bed.
The sky is overcast and there are rumblings of thunder. Let's hope we get a nice cloudburst--the drought situation here is dire. Is that? Yes! The patter of rain on the roof! We've had less than an inch of precipitation since last October--so it really is welcome. Hell, Florida gets that much during any regularly scheduled afternoon thundershower after May 1st....
Love to all!
