A White New Year
Jan. 2nd, 2019 05:43 pmOn New Year's Eve, I was in bed at midnight and nodding off. My sleep schedule has flip--flopped the last couple weeks. Feels very bizarre to be crawling into bed in the evening and waking up around 4-5 a.m.,is when I usually turned out the lights to try to snooze.
New Year's Day, I didn't go anywhere, just hunkered down. I did a little writing and some cooking. The collards and black-eyed peas are good--I still have plenty!--although I didn't get around to making cornbread. Figured that was one less pan to wash when I'm able to do so again.
It snowed yesterday...all day yesterday. We got about four inches, which was enough to make me cancel the ride I had arranged for today. I was going to head up to the Smiths near GK's, and while I was in the neighborhood, pop into the salon that's there and get my hair washed. (It seriously needs it.) But the weather outside really was frightful, and I don't have snow boots, nor did I want to risk slipping if there was ice.
Had a brief, shining moment of hope this morning when I absentmindedly turned on a faucet...it sputtered and water came out. Only lasted a minute or two...and so I wait. This is tiresome. My weather app says temps in the 40's around Friday or Saturday. I never expected to look forward to doing dishes and laundry this much....
Nothing else interesting going on. I posted a chapter of "The Man With the Silver Arm" yesterday. First post of 2019, yay. And almost the end of my epic tale--two more chapters and it'll wrap. Finally! It's currently 32,000 words, which is a record for me, been in progress since November 2014, and I'm somewhere between a sense of accomplishment at completing it and kicking myself for listening to the requests to take it past a one-shot. Although if it had stayed a one-shot, it would've been just one of many--definitely not a record-breaker.
