I would like to hear from YOU!
Sep. 9th, 2007 12:54 am1. Comment to this post with the name of a character that I have written in fic. Or geeked out about.
2. I will comment telling you the following:
a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
b. One of his/her best traits.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The story/chapter/paragraph/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character*.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

fandom_me (Yes, I mean geeked. This is a very writer-geeky topic!

Date: 2007-09-09 05:30 am (UTC)a. Captain Jack Sparrow was the first time I actually appreciated Johnny Depp. Before that, I wrote him off as "that 80's pretty boy with the bad hair and worse attitude". And then, along came Jack and hello! When did JD get so damned much talent? And sexxxy?
b. There's enough moral ambiguity to make him interesting. Most of the time, he's going to jump in the way of his own self-interest, but not always.
c. A lot of the character is in gesture and inflection, which can be tricky to capture. Did I just answer "d" as well? Partially....
d. When I was writing him, he wasn't too elusive, at least not in the scope of what I was writing. I've never tried anything extended, although I've had a few bunnies with cutlasses after me.
e. I think By Dawn's Early Light is my best Jack.
f. No plans for the near future. I had an extended storyline in mind before DMC came out, which would've revealed Jack's connection to the McRavens in The Sign of the Green Bottle (which can be read as a stand-alone, or I'd not have posted it). Now...too many other projects going on!

Date: 2007-09-09 03:05 pm (UTC)And Edward Marcase, who I'd send to you as a b'day present wrapped in a big blue bow (and not much else) if I had major powers. :O)

Date: 2007-09-09 05:51 pm (UTC)Ah, yes, Edward. Who would look fantastic in a blue bow..."I dunna where ye been, lad---but I see ye won first prize!"
a. Aside from JDM being scorching hawt? And me being a little queer about epidemics? No clue!
b. The guy has "HERO" written all over him. He's intelligent, thoughtful, just enough of a temper to be interesting, but it's always for a good cause.
c. It would be awfully easy to write him as a Gary Stu.
d. I hadn't seen BZ since it aired when I wrote Bad Fairy, but when I did, and went back and reread it, I realized I'd done a pretty good job from memory. (And I liked the bachelor party scene from My Shiroma, but that was just a tip of the hat.)
e. I have a story in mind, but I doubt it'll come out in the near future, cuz I have SO much stuff in my head already! It's another crossover with SPN, where Edward is investigating hantavirus in the SW and the Winchesters are on a case that's going to dovetail with that, circa 1993.

Date: 2007-09-09 09:53 pm (UTC)a. For starters, I wanted to do something het-John, and wasn't interested in writing Mary. And that led to THE question: what kind of woman would be willing/able to put up with the driven, stubborn SOB that is John Winchester.
b. What I love about Nancy is that she's very pragmatic and has a dry sense of humor. She combines the attitude of several women in my life that I feel enriched from having known them.
c. Nancy has a tendency to keep her own secrets, even though she often zeroes in on what other other folks keep hidden. She doesn't explain herself much, and she utters cryptic pronouncements.
d. I understand where her head is, although I don't always approve of it. Her "exchanging" Truckzilla for the Impala surprised *me*...I was typing that chapter and going, "Okay, but Dean is gonna have your ass fried for breakfast...."
e. Absolutely, I am going to finish what Nancy started. It's one of several WIPs. However, some of those other projects have deadlines; I think I'm going to end up doing what I did last year, and commit to mininanowrimo.
