Things I'm thankful for (since I have a suspicion I'm going to be out and about much of tomorrow):

#1: I'm thankful for friends and "family". Family is in quotes because, if you observe the strict definition of being connected via DNA, I have none, at least that I'm in contact with...but if we're talking about a circle of people I love and care about, then I have a vast, wonderful family. (Y'all know who you are, I hope.)

2. I'm thankful for my home and my stuff. Yes, I may have waaay too many possessions, but I've got a roof over my head, enough clothes to be comfortably and decently dressed, and enough books and media products to keep my mind engaged.

3. I'm thankful for the opportunity to work at home. It amazes me that I drove back and forth for a year, and now it's so easy. I'm not sure what level of kharmic dues I've paid, but Thank You, Universe!

4. I'm thankful that my car held up for that year of commuting, and I'm thankful (and hopeful, excited and a little scared) for the Camaro that will be entering my life soon. One way or another, I'm sure it'll be a learning experience.

5. I'm thankful that I'm ME. I can't think of anyone I know personally in real life that I'd want to change places with. Yeah, I'm fat and single, but everybody has baggage. I'd rather have it on my belly and thighs than between my ears. Or snoring in bed next to me while I'm crying. Or calling me to criticize or stalking me.

===========================

On a less profound scale, I'm glad S has invited me for dinner (and again, she's giving me the Camaro!), I'm glad [livejournal.com profile] starhawk2005 helped me beta my forthcoming evil mpreg fic, I'm glad [livejournal.com profile] sbjb has offered to help me develop a website of my very own, and I'm glad it's almost time for Criminal Minds, because last week's cliffhanger has been very much on my mind.

Happy Thanksgiving Day, y'all!

This is one of the sweetest, most uplifting things I've read in a long time.

Happy Thanksgiving, hon.

Amen!

Glad I could help! ;)

In the end, I liked how they left it. It wasn't 'serial killer preying on women of unconventional beauty', but something much more....compelling?

Yes, and the *other* hacker as new potential romantic interest was fun. *sigh* This definitely sandbagged the fic I started after last ep. Oh, well, six paragraphs, no great loss....

Hey, there's no stopping you writing it as an AU...

Garcia's older sister and Rossi? Probably would've strayed dangerously close to Mary Sue/self-insertion.

Ah. Well, it's a good thing you weren't 20 pages into it already. :)

Happy Thanksgiving and allow me to sing "I Want To Take You Higher!" (HIGHER!)

Which now has that 70s classic "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher" running through my head, and I'm sure that isn't what you had in mind!

Since your header was a Sly and the Family Stone song, I responded with another. "You're Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher" is Jackie Wilson, which just leads me back to my world-renowned Karaoke rendition of "Jackie Wilson Said" by Van Morrison.

*headdesk* Okie-dokey. It always amazes me when you know these things. Mind you, I tend to get the same reaction from my friends about movie trivia....

My movie trivia brain ain't what it used to be before I could look stuff up on IMDB and elsewhere. I used to be able to rattle off Oscar winners, dialogue, cast lists etc. A lot of that I've lost and now have to sit through movies waiting to get home to my computer so I can find out "who that is and where I've seen them before." On the other hand, music is, I think "more visceral" and sticks in my brain better.

The problem with my movie trivia brain is, the younger generation. About ten or so years ago, the actors I was into started sliding out of the spotlight, and now I can't keep track of Afleck-Damon-Jolie-Stiller and all these other "children" who are leading the box office.

Never mind actually trying to keep up with who's directing this stuff. (If you call that directing.) Ivan (my friendly former Marine) have gotten through miles of running babbling together about old "40's 50's 60's, even 70's) war movies and who was in them as opposed to who was in what others etc.

Much as I love my LJ buds of all ages, there is something disheartening about having a gmail chat conversation and making a movie (or even pop culture) reference and knowing one is getting the cyberstace equivalent of a blank stare.

I mean, who among them would appreciate the fact that my friend Don gave me a tape of a Paul Lynde Halloween special from 1976 that includes Margaret Hamilton, Witchi-poo from the Bugaloos AND KISS.

OMG, Paul Lynde! Mr Hollywood Squares himself! With the Wicket Witch of the West and KISS? (I have a hazy memory of the Bugaloos from Saturday morning TV, but by '76, I wasn't really into all that.)

The sound quality is lousy, but just the fact that it exists at all!

I totally credit Mr. Lynde's subversive Hollywood Squares quips with making me the fag-hag I am today.

I think my gaydar broke at an early age: my earliest-ever celebrity crush was Roddy McDowell.

I tend to think of him as either a, the kid from My Friend Flicka or b, The Bookworm from Batman the series.

Not to keep this thread going to infinity, but if you've never seen it, you've got to try and get your hands on "Five Card Stud," a late 60's western with Dean Martin in full sleepy-eyed, rat-pack-esque mode, Robert Mitchum, back in the cassock again, and so help me...Roddy McDowell.

Huge Mitchum fan that I am, I think I have a bootleg of it around here somewhere.

(I am still wincing about the Wicket Witch of the West typo. It sounds like she's going to challenge Dorothy to Sudden Death Croquet, or the like....)
