vanillafluffy: (Film fest)

Didn't go home today, have done a load of laundry, but that's about it. Hallmark Channel is apparently owned by Disney, 'cause they've been showing vintage Disney all day: Pollyanna, The Parent Trap, and at the moment, Escape From Witch Mountain. All we need now is some early Jodie Foster. Freaky Friday and Candleshoe, maybe?

I'm such a middle-aged nerd, I swear....

I've always been fond of her---I also adored her with Roz Russell in The Trouble With Angels, which was on AMC a couple of months ago....

I first saw her in the movie with the lion. With the red-headed kid Disney always used. What was that movie called? It was someone's name, I think. Probably the lion's.

Napoleon and Samantha. With Johnny Whitaker. And a cute, 20-something Michael Douglas. And the scary thing? I didn't have to IMDb the details....

Hallmark also showed "Return From Witch Mountain" and "The Princess Diaries" that day.

I still haven't seen The Princess Diaries, despite being a rabid Julie Andrews fan. Sat through The Return from Witch Mountain before bedtime, but thought it lacked the charm of the original---the kids were too clearly young teens and it didn't work for me, although seeing Denver Pyle as their uncle was a treat, as was Bette Davis as a villainess.

"The Princess Diaries" is really cute - you'd like it. Anne Hathaway's film debut.

"Return From Witch Mountain" was a lukewarm sequel, at best. First of all, Tony and Tia weren't even together for 90% of the movie. Second, the storyline had plot holes big enough to drive a Mack truck through. Third, why in the hell didn't they whiten Bette Davis' teeth?!?

They both had some dandy plot holes, but not that I ever noticed when I was a kid. ('Cause these days, Eddie Albert would've been calling Family Services in two seconds flat instead of driving them all over California.) Vast suspension of disbelief is still needed for your average Disney film---look at my favorite Disney of this decade, The Pacifier---a super sekrit underground facility beneath a suburban garage?! Yeah, right. (Which bothered me enough to write a prequel explaining it.) Your typical 10-year old isn't going to think twice about it.

Tis true.

But I was (and I suspect you were) never a 'typical' 10-year old.
