Yesterday was long and angsty. I distracted myself by writing, which was a Good Thing, as Cousin Martha would say.

2nd Choice garage didn't answer their phone til mid-afternoon, and still hadn't looked at my car. By the time they did, it was late afternoon. The verdict: Something I never would've guessed---the clutch. Apparently there's some kind of plastic bushing inside, and after +240K miles, it crumbled.

They have to get the part from Honda---it isn't generic---and it's going to run in the neighborhood of $160 to fix (which nearly had me under my desk sucking my thumb).

I got a ride to the CUUPs Meetup from PJ, to whom I confided my tale of woe, and he's going to loan me the cost of the repair. (He also bought me dinner. Ribs...yum!) ang5fam is sending an early birthday present, which will top up my tank. Meanwhile, my insurance payments have been made, my phone/cable/net bill is paid, and I got lots of sweet comments on my fic.

So now, I'm waiting to hear from 2nd Chance to find out what the official total is going to be---hoping they were able to get the part today!---so I can get ahold of PJ and possibly actually go to work today. (I'm really afraid of what may happen if I call out AGAIN.)

Life can be infernally complex.

I'd have never of expected it to be the clutch. Man, I hope this takes care of it and the Honda is a happy critter for a long time.

Yeah, that wasn't even on the horizon of my diagnosis. I can definitely feel the difference; it's much beefier.
